Against the first form, he had no long-range attacks, and probably wouldn't be able to cross the hole, or protect himself from the homing attack.
Versus the Monster form, he would just get csmashed around like a doll. To big to roll beneath it's legs, no Light Arrows to blind it... he'd get annihilated.
