That's only half of it. Yes, we're getting better, but the games are also getting easier. MM and
OoA were harder than the games that preceded them, but in every other case each new game is progressively easier. You can be equally familiar with any two Zelda games, except MM and
OoA, and the older one is harder than the newer one.
