I'm pretty sure he means that it won't be set in the future, have any ridiculous controls, or have some really old Link ((he looks only slightly older. Like, 18 or so))

I highly doubt they would mean the story or getting rid of some Zelda trademarks (not meaning the formula. They should do something about that. But it does need to have some kind of plot twist at some point.)
