Link could be considered somewhat of a father figure to his sister in Wind Waker, since they live with just there grandma. Hence, no male in the family but Link. Though he was younger in Wind Waker than in the other games he is older than he looks. He is probably 12-14(even tho he looks like he is 9), and his sister is pretty young.
