yes it can. I know plenty of games I avoided because everyone was like "it's going to be the best evar" or saying the same after it came out. I avoided Half Life because everyone raved about it and I felt it would let me down. boy was a wrong <.< still amazing ten years later.

Really I'm avoiding the hype of Zelda Wii. In fact I'm not watching any trailers past the first one. I don't want the plot ruined (CoD4 trailers did that, and the ones for TP kinda did too). If you want the game to be awesome do the same. Then you won't have any high hopes for the game.
