Yeah, same with us--we were in the basketball home of the South Carolina Gamecocks!
Well, their home at the time--they have since moved to a bigger and better arena across the street. Now the older arena is used by our third-rate minor league hockey team.
We did something similar after we walked the stage. Instead of posing, though, the photographer would simply snap our picture as we were walking to the end of the stage, new diploma in hand. It probably works a bit more smoothly than your school's method, I'm afraid.
(But it's a very lovely picture, nevertheless. :3)
