Re: Insaney's Sane Characters

Vanille de Nouveau
The New Vanilla

Name: Vanille de Nouveau (French. “New Vanilla” )

Age: 17

Race: Linked Human/Summoner -- A human that has a soul that is ‘linked’ to other worlds, and can summon beings from various worlds. To make sure that the soul is not severed even if the links to other worlds are cut off, a ‘Djinni’ is automatically summoned at birth. The human’s soul is fully linked to that retainer and that Djinni is linked to the various worlds. Sort of like a router between the computer and the internet; if the internet connection is severed, the computer can still connect to the router. There are four types of Djinn representing the four elements (Earth/Venus, Wind/Jupiter, Water/Mercury, Fire/Mars) and one is summoned at birth depending on the month of the year. The Djinn are no smaller than squirrels and each has their own name and personality.

Gender: Femme

Hair: Shimmering brown, usually in two pigtails. (One that’s a little to the side if using her medieval appearance and her hair is in a ponytail when in her modern-day appearance)

Eyes: Green

Height: 5ft 5 inches

Weight: 130lbs

Weapons: A summoner doesn’t have any main weapons beside the beings or items he or she can summon. Although she can summon the weapons that the beings she’s used to summoning use, or even independent weapons she is unable to wield them effectively simply because she was not taught how to handle any. She has only acquired the abilities to summon weapons on their own because the more experienced a summoner is, the more powerful beings she can summon without the help of any technology. She does have the means to defend herself, though.

Items:
  • -- Laban: This is her main item. It looks like a simple, black cloth wristband that’s just slightly longer than a conventional one. This seemingly simple garment can contain petabytes of data. When interfacing with this piece of technology, a hologram appears over it (so she has to hold up her arm just like she’s looking at a wristwatch). It contains a list to all the beings/items she has summoned already, their data and abilities, along with all the Remnants she has destroyed and the ones she is currently tracking. It also contains any information she manages to pick up with her own senses. This device can also function as a futuristic cellphone which can adapt to a wide range of networks; it can also access the internet, showing pages in the holographic display. This device also enhances her summoning power by a bit, enabling her to summon the beings she’s used to summoning. The Laban also changes her appearance (mainly her clothes and hairstyle, but not its colour) by using a hologram. If the Laban is damaged or cut in any way, its nanotechnology repairs it over a matter of time. The Laban caters to one of her hobbies (other than summoning), it can create a completely interactive (including sound!) hologram of any kind of guitar for her to play.

  • --Laban Xtension: Nanotech Nails: even on her fingernails, futuristic technology exists. The nanotechnology embedded in her fingernails allows her to summon a miniature, roundish, holographic-looking shield to block a single attack, Vanille can do this as many times as she likes with each hand. The shields are slightly bigger than her hand with her fingers stretched out, round and decorated with lots of arrows, circles, lines and runes. The nanotech also monitors her sense of touch and transmits the data to the Laban. They can also be used as a remote for different things (like changing the channel on a television, etc. She activates her Laban by thinking about it; the nanotech on her nails then activates the Laban.) The nanotech also allows her to hack into and use computers with ease and remotely. There is no range. If she loses the Laban, she can still summon something (because of her nails transmitting the data to the Laban), although the being will appear near the device and not her.

  • --Air Gear: Normal looking black sneakers that has advanced technology integrated into the soles. The technology summons two hologram-like circles (similar to her Xtension shields from her fingers) that allows Vanille to hover and glide swiftly at least one foot over water. The direction and speed are changed by the way she bends her ankles or leans. The black sneakers has two white wing designs on their sides.

  • --Military Grade XGS HUD v3.0: XGS = ‘(e)Xtended Geographical Sight’. The technology of this device isn’t exactly new. The way the lenses are made allows one to view more of their surroundings while standing still. When worn, however, the glasses provide a heads-up display (with blue night vision and lighter blue text!) that provides information (height/weight and stuff like that). These glasses are usually used for the stealth section of the military, for sniping and assassinations, but once a new one comes out, the old one gets released on the public markets.

Strengths: Very nimble and agile. She is swift on her feet and thinks fast. She can dodge/block most attacks with the help of the Nanotech. Although she can only summon one being at a time, she can summon any number of weapons for her or them to use. Each summon, including the weapons, is a force to be reckoned with. She is confident and doesn’t shy away, but is smart enough to know when the trouble is too much for her to handle. Vanille also uses small tactics when battling, like angering an opponent to cloud their judgement by taunting (mainly by rocking out with the guitar). Also, because of her association with Fire (she has a Mars Djinni), if the being she is summoning is associated with fire as well, that being will gain a boost to its powers.

Weaknesses: Her physical strength is nothing much, although she can dodge or block, attacking is out of the question. She was never trained to attack, only defend herself and summon. If one of her summons falls in battle, she’ll have to wait a while before summoning the same one again. If all her summons fall, then she’s left on her own for a while and can only block or dodge. If she faces an opponent of strength that none of her summons can defeat, she’s better off running unless she’s in her own time, where there are pods located around each city that plugs into her, enabling her to summon something extremely powerful. Sometimes she may be pushing it too much with her taunts, and taunting like that doesn’t always work.

Skills/Magic:

--Summoner: The ones with the asterisk ( * ) are the items/beings she’s able to summon to her without using the enhancements of the Laban, so even if she loses the device they’ll appear near her instead of near it.
  • Summoned Beings:

  • *Vampire Scarecrow: - Earth - Her weakest summon to date. The Vampire Scarecrow is slow, weak and it can only bite, nothing more. It can’t talk, it can’t walk, only hop. The only thing good about it is that the bite can stun for up to ten seconds, but by the time it’s up close, its pumpkinhead is already smashed in. This being is simply a scarecrow animated by evil magic, and doesn’t drink blood—it just bites.

  • *Akane-Hime: - Earth - (Crimson Princess). Akane-Hime is the most balanced of all her summons. She has good speed and attack and defence power. Akane obeys without second thoughts. Akane-Hime is a princess that wields a possessed blade; the being inside the blade has taken over part of her, as well, as a result, she is brutal when killing an opponent and always covered in blood when finished.

  • Shou: - Fire - (“Fly” or “Soar”) Her fastest summon. It is the only fire-associated summon she knows and as a result, it gains a boost in its speed and power. Shou’s sword is a flame blade, that turns blue when hot, and he can wield it so fast while charging swiftly, that he looks like a blue comet. Shou is so fast he can run on water. His attacks cut and burn at the same time, but doesn’t do as much damage as Akane’s brutal wielding. Both Shou and Akane originate from the same land.

  • Aishwarya Astaroth: - Wind – (full name means: “Power of the Stars” ) Aishwarya is by far the most powerful being she can summon in terms of raw power. She is a legendary queen, wielder of a magical spear called “Aegis”. She is as brutal as Akane and a lot stronger. When she throws her spear, it can pierce steel. The spear can be called to her hand by a whistle and it pierces anything in its path when it’s flying back to her. The spear can also fire bolts of lightning from its tip (implying that Aishwarya herself is Wind-associated). She can hover above the ground and move as if she’s flying. She can’t fly very high, but she can fly fast. She can also teleport Vanille to different points in time. This is not unusual, since many summoners go back in time and acquire new summons.

  • Summoned Items:

  • *Akane-Hime’s Demon Blade: This possessed sword, when summoned and wielded, stays in the person’s hand until the enemy is brutally dealt with or fleeing.

  • *Shou’s Flame Sword: This blade burns blue when hot, and can pierce through thin steel using the heat to melt the metal. When at full power, blue flames trail the blade when it is swung. The sword cuts and burns at the same time, cutting and searing the insides before sealing the cut on the outside.

  • Aishwarya’s Aegis: This intimidating piece of metal can pierce anything and be recalled to your hand. It fires lightning bolts that fry the enemy inside-out. But this is the hardest weapon to control. If you’re not experienced, it’s heavy in your hand. Throwing it is a chore in itself and recalling it is dangerous, as it could pierce the wielder if you don’t know how to catch it properly. The lightning bolts that burst out makes the spear recoil greatly, so it needs someone strong to hold it.

  • Redline: A red, elaborately decorated long sword. The blade can cut anything within three inches of it, so even if the blade itself barely misses, its target will still get slashed if it’s within three inches of the blade. Redline is from a world where technology has advanced greatly, but guns are not used.

  • *Everglade: (pictured with her medieval appearance) This sword is a green, intricately designed blade made by the Elves. It is extremely light and very easy to wield, but very weak when it comes to attacking. It is the only sword Vanille can wield without much trouble, but even so, she’s not very good with it. She only has it/draws it to ‘fit in’ a little more during the medieval time.

  • Angelique-Assisted Summons:
(Can’t summon these without an Angelique pod, which are only found in old ruins/underground during medieval /present day eras and frequently in places in her time. The pods in her time are enhanced alien technology that plugs into her (hence the plugsuit, the ‘summoner’s uniform’), her djinn and her Laban. The non-futuristic pods take a lot longer to activate because of the lack of this interface, but the interactive holograms of the Laban can make it work. It’ll just take a while longer).

  • Eclipse: A massive dragon that always stays in front of the moon/sun, hence its name. It blocks out the sun/moon and fires a powerful beam down at its target before disappearing. The power of the beam depends on the cloud cover, and the effect of the beam depends on if it’s day or night. If it’s day, the beam will scorch the target, turning it into a crisp. At night, the beam will freeze its target. The frozen target will then turn into crystallized dust.

Appearance:
Face 1
Face 2
Futuristic Top/Plugsuit, she wears a normal black jeans and black sneakers with this, nothing special.
Modern/Present-Day Outfit, with ponytail instead of pigtails.
Medieval Outfit with the Everglade sword.

Personality: Vanille is lively and light-hearted, but follows the rules (her rules/morals) to the ‘t’. She is not a bad person at all and only wants to become a more experienced summoner. She is well versed in histories of different worlds/dimensions (as a summoner should be) and as such, she isn’t very overwhelmed by anything she summons/sees while in different times. Vanille likes old music (ie. present-day music. To them, our music are like...classics ), but mostly electric guitar (her idol is a semi-unknown Brazilian guitarist named “Mayan Fernand”, she plays her guitar solos almost any time using her Laban guitar, but mostly when she taunts). Her taunting is something of a habit, having been actually trained to taunt and taught that taunting is a good thing when in a fight Les Restes (“The Remnants”. Aliens, should be explained in the bio). Vanille doesn’t seem to take anything seriously, she just seems to be entirely carefree. Truthfully, she takes her friends and job seriously; she’s determined to become an experienced summoner. Even though she can speak both English and French, she tends to mix French in the English language a lot. She uses words/phrases from French such as:
  • “Et pourtant” – “And though”
  • “Bien que” – “Although”
  • “Apres tu/vous” – “After you (singular/plural)”
  • “S’il vous plait” – “Please”
  • “Merci (beaucoup)” – “Thank you (very much)”
  • “C’est folie!” – “This is insane!/crazy!”
  • “Fooooliee!” – “Craaaazzy!”
  • “Avance!” – “C’mon!”

Bio: Vanille de Nouveau was born into a perfectly normal family on a perfectly normal Earth... for that time. She was born to a British father and French mother in Marseilles, France. However, as soon as she was born, her Fire Djinn was automatically summoned, indicating that her life was already decided for her, she would be a summoner.

When she was old enough to understand that her Djinn was more than just a squirrel-sized pet (at about ten), her parents dropped the real world on her. They travelled with her to the Interzone (capital), Paris, in order for her to receive her training (all linked humans/summoners are required by law to undergo training) in preparation for joining the military and/or peacekeeping core. This was where she received her current equipment and learned the true reason of why she had a djinn and why others had the same type, but different names.

She spent most of her time in training, but that never dulled her spirits. Her superiors, although strict during classes were friends outside. She discovered her knack for playing the guitar after one of her musically inclined teachers introduced her to it. It took a little practice at first and she began learning by seeing/hearing recordings of her teacher’s favourite guitarist. She saw her taunting classes as a way to play/learn guitar. In these classes, their task was to taunt a hologram of a Remnant into attacking.

It was taught that getting a Remnant angry and provoking it to attack blinded its senses and/or judgement and would make it more vulnerable to attack since it won’t make efforts to defend itself well. This is why taunting in the midst of heated battles has become a habit for her, even when facing non-aliens.

To put things simply, the Remnants are aliens that are older than the Earth itself and are said to have a hand in creating it. There are the massive Remnants that wreak havoc and the smaller ones that come down to be seeds of chaos. They are numerous and live in the moon’s orbit. The Remnants are incapable of using their full power without the assistance of gravity and humans don’t have the space technology (even though their technology on the ground seems almost extra-terrestrial) to combat such things in space. Even on the ground, humankind’s weapons are said to be almost ineffective against the large Remnants (small ones are okay).

Vanille had become part of the military now; her first summon to combat a small Remnant was the Vampire Scarecrow. Her second summon was Akane-Hime. Somewhere in between that and her most powerful (assisted) summon, Vanille called out Aishwarya, who was able to take her to different times as well as be her most fearsome combatant on the ground... for now. Visiting other times was not something new for summoners; so although this was a little unnerving at first, she soon accepted it as a norm, as countless of others had. Her most powerful summon was made after she was forced to plug into an Angelique to summon something powerful enough to take care of a powerful Remnant that had descended on a part of Paris. That summon was Eclipse and it was recorded in her Laban.

The Remnants had come back to Earth many years ago; hundreds of years after the apocalypse was ‘supposed’ to happen, but was stopped by a group of ‘supernatural’ beings. Their technology has been on Earth long before the first human; millions of years ago: the humans just copied and modified it, using the technology to create futuristic cities and items. They also modified the summoning pods (Angeliques. “Angelics” in English) and began using them again. The first people to use the prototypes were affected by them and they became the parents of the first summoners.

The dimension-opening energy released from these summoned the Remnants back to Earth which they now want to destroy, fearing that the technology has become more potent than theirs. Very few of the Remnants are not bound by time and are capable of travelling into the past. Fending them off and preserving the future are the jobs of the summoners; Vanille’s job.

Name: Shula (Arabic for “Fire”).

Type: Mars/Fire Djinni

Gender: Femme

Age: Same as Vanille. 17.

Height: between 3-4 inches

Weight: Extremely light. It can zip around like a fly or float like a feather.

Colour: Red/Yellow

Eyes: Shimmering blue orbs.

Appearance

Skills/Magic:
  • Parallel Bond: The bond with Vanille. If it dies, she may not survive. This bond also enables her to open gateways to summon her beings. She also has the power to bond with Vanille, by pressing against any part of open skin; the djinni will disappear into its master.
  • Flame Boost: The boost she automatically gives to fire-based summons.
  • Fire Dart: Shula surrounds herself with fire and darts straight at an opponent.

Personality: Shula communicates with chirps and only her master and other djinn could understand her. She is mostly shy, only flitting around Vanille and hiding in her clothes or sitting on her shoulder quietly when approached by other djinn. Occasionally, it’ll even bond with Vanille to hide. The thing rarely attacks, even when Vanille tries to get it to.
