It seems to me that this same question could be asked: "Would you rather play Zelda in 3D or Virtual Reality?" Back in the late 80's and early 90's virtual reality was coming abroad, however it still isn't ready to be in the homes of every household. We're in the new millenia, and we still don't have the cost to have an average family home purchase something that expensive.
For a 4D experience, the game wouldn't have to just come with the game itself, you'd have to purchase a special chair to come along with it (along with all of the additional accessories). The chair would have to be able to emit various aromas (for that "smell-o-vision feel. Who wouldn't want to smell what a King Dodongo's breath smells like when it roars), spray liquids, vibrate, has surround sound, and bring with it's very own 3D glasses.
So far the closest thing we have is a combination of
this chair with
this pair of "virtual reality" glasses (it's not really virtual reality-like, it's just two miniature screens that are really close to your eyes).
