Damn. I've always wondered if he was meant to be a different race, since he was half the size of Link. Enlarged Minish? Somehow-aged Kokiri? Essence of the Triforce? Spirit of the Great King as a midget?

But Dark Link guarded the ToC. The old dude just hands it over when you beat Dark Link. Not much of a security system there.
