I know someone who's done it so apparently it's possible, but I don't see why you would do it, it just makes getting there a pain.

Hah! I actually did that once! It's not too too hard once you figure out the sand patterns and such you have to follow, but it takes quite a while. The reason I did it was because I was glitch-hunting and trying to get to the Gerudo Fortress as Young Link. I got to the river of sand and I heard there was some trick to get across at the corners of the river, but it was extremely frustrating and difficult, so I didn't make it.
I also tried once to fight Bongo Bongo as Young Link by using Farore's Wind, but the stupid gaps in that room are to big to get across without using Hover Boots. |

I've tried doing the treck without the lens of truth, and believe me it is hard. You definetly need the lens,it makes it 10 times easier to complete.
