Jonah looked out at the city from the window of his apartment; a window the size of a wall. It was getting dark, the lights of the city glaring across the night. Jonah afforded himself a smile; this was a sight he did not often see. Walking away, he sat down on his shoulder, turning on the television. The picture was clear, then suddenly it became distorted, the sound elongated and crackly. Jonah put a hand over his chest and the distortion vanished.

The news was on, the reporter talking about something unimportant. Jonah focused his attention on his chest. The wound there glowed blue, its soft light casting a strange shadow about the room. Removing his hand, the signal began to break again. Jonah did not care; he was concentrating on the sticky blue substance covering his hand. It was cold, and would not come away from his flesh. Concentrating on it he commanded it to move and harden. Immediately it dropped to the floor, a solid tangle of blue. Scooping it up, he commanded it again, and this time it turned into a blue sphere, small enough to be carried around with ease. Picking up his sword and equipment he walked out of the apartment, speeding down the stairs.

This city was big. Surely there was someone who could help him.
