Ah, no, that's a camcorder.
A video codec is something like DivX, software that lets your computer read different video types. Normally you need a separate codec for most video types, though Windows ships with quite a few.
The thing is, for some reason the one that ships with Windows for .avi files doesn't always play nice with WMM, so you may have to use a different one (which, odds are, will not alway splay nice with WMM, unfortunately.)
At least, that's my best guess based on my sister's multi-year struggle to get WMM to do anything with .avi files.
So, what I'd try doing is downloading the DivX codec and seeing if installing that makes things work.
