FFVII Remake?

Alright, it's that time of year again, where all the big game companies display their all important holiday line-ups and other releases, and the speculators start wondering what we will see next. It seems that every year we see some discussion of a remake of Square's Final Fantasy VII, especially since that PS3 tech demo that redid the opening in HD. So the question is:

Do you think a FFVII is going to be released in the near future?

Would you like a FFVII remake?

If yes, then what would you like to see improved on? If no, why not?

I myself am not a Final Fantasy fan in the slightest, and I really don't take well to JRPGs in general, but I still wonder why Square hasn't re-made FFVII yet. They have an abundance of reasons to, like:

-Huge, huge profit.
-You'd be fixing the worst part of FFVII, the graphics. I don't care how old a game is, 3D polygons on 2D pre-rendered backgrounds is and always has been ugly.
-The music in FFVII was easily the best part. Orchestrations FTW? I'd play the damn game just to hear "Highwind Takes to the Skies."
-Putting in extra content. Re-tooling the mini-games to make them feel less clunky. Maybe even overhauling the games core gameplay for a fresh experience?
-A PS3 exclusive release might not only bring in some extra profit from Sony, but might also work to appease some of the fanbase upset by the whole FFXIII deal.

Thoughts?

Re: FFVII Remake?

Nomura is busy with other projects, it isn't coming for a long time and if it does come making it a Ps3 exclusive doesn't make much sense if they want to maximize profits. Sony would probably have to dish out quite a bit of cash to keep it off the 360.

Also, I'd rather have new games rather than remakes.

Re: FFVII Remake?

Yes, but purely because I've never played FFVII and probably couldn't bring myself to do so now because the graphics are plainly terrible.

Normally I ignore graphics for gameplay, but as of now they're too dated to not be distracting.

Wouldn't we all? But that doesn't keep Square from re-making Chrono Trigger or pretty much every Final Fantasy game before VII (some even with new graphics). I'm just thinking Square should redirect its lust for re-releasing games to a more worthy project: FFVII.

Re: FFVII Remake?

Chrono Trigger is a port, it probably took almost no time and money. The remakes were outsourced to Matrix and they were handheld games, they wouldn't cost half of what a FFVII remake would.
Nomura would probably want to work on FFVII himself and he'd probably want a very big budget.

I'd rather see VIII and IX remade. They don't get enough love.

Re: FFVII Remake?

Last time a 32-bit classic was remade we got bull**** like this:

The biggest reservations I have about remaking this game is the fact that all the FFVII character models used in the Compilation look like **** and the current crop of voice actors need to find other jobs.

I wouldn't. I don't really care about VIII, but they'd probably manage to wreck IX somewhere along the way. >.>

Back to the topic, no, I wouldn't really want a Final Fantasy VII re-make. It would be a combination of cash-cows that Square-Enix has been milking just a little too much in recent years. I'd prefer a new FF that actually feels like an FF...unlike XII.

Oh, and if they were stupid enough to make it a PS3 exclusive, not only would it make them far less money than a multi-platform release, but it would enrage those people who don't want to shell out £300+ for a system they'd never use again.

I would love to see a FFVII remake, and that's the end of it.

Re: FFVII Remake?

An FFVII remake? HECK YEAH!

The music was super-awesome. It would be so cool to listen to a fully-orchestrated soundtrack with songs like Aerith's Theme! Heck, it would be cool to put Advent Children's version of One-Winged Angel on there too.

FFVII is a classic, and I'd very much love to see it redone. It's getting harder and harder to own a copy that isn't scratched beyond repair.

Re: FFVII Remake?

^ Uh...you get an un-scratched copy and take care of it? O.o

Re: FFVII Remake?

I've tried that for years now, Tiroth. PS1 discs are cursed. No matter how hard one tries, they eventually get scratched up.

One reason why I preferred the Nintendo 64.

PlayStation? I own my FFVII on the PC!

Actually, yes, even my PC copy has a scratched disc three, so I was never able to finish the game past the final boss. My save files are long gone, however, but if I ever wanted to play the game again, it wouldn't be hard to "find" a "free" "backup copy" of FFVII if you catch my meaning.

All my ps1 discs are in near mint condition. What the hell do you do with your games?

...that really makes me worry. I like my PS1 games...most of which happen to be FFs.
