Louis jogged to catch up with the boy, his instrument cases rattling around on his back.
"Now these fellows already mugged you once," he was saying once he had fallen in stride with the kid, "what makes you think you can handle them alone, without your staff?"
The boy maintained the kind of intense, embarrassed silence of someone who has just had their plan's fatal flaw pointed out to them and is trying to ignore it to see if it'll miraculously go away. Louis shot him a sympathetic smile.
"Don't worry, lad--see, that's where I come in. I've got nothing better to do, and I won't ask for payment in return. Just allow me to come along with ya and help out, to relieve my boredom. Deal?"
