Re: LEA's Personal Character List

Akiyama Miyako

Name: Akiyama Miyako (surname being Akiyama, as common in Japanese names); Akiyama means “autumn mountain” while Miyako means “beautiful night child”

Age: 16

Race: Human

Occupation: Chef and aspiring Pokemon trainer

Current Residence: Celadon City

Gender: Female

Height: 5’7”

Weight: 145 lbs.

Hair: A vibrant reddish-brown

Eyes: A dark blue, almost black

Appearance:

Miyako, though in possession of a Japanese name, is not Japanese in appearance. (This will be explained in greater detail in her bio.) Though she is only sixteen, she is already turning into quite the stunning young woman with a figure that is both full and well-toned. She has an olive complexion and reddish-brown hair that cascades down past her shoulders to the middle of her back in gentle waves. One thick strip of white descends from the front and left side of her part, all the way to the tip of her hair. Depending on her mood, she can either wear her hair up in a ponytail or leave it down. Thin layers of her hair spiral down to frame her delicately-formed face and dark blue eyes.

For clothing, she typically wears a standard white chef’s uniform while at work, but when she is out training her Pokemon, she wears much more casual clothing. Her style is an eclectic mix of elegance and punk, an outward representation of both her demure and wild sides. Whenever she is not working, she is almost never seen without her comfortable black fingerless gloves, made of a sturdy material able to withstand plenty of abuse. The ends of the gloves are hemmed in a band of bright purple. She loves bracelets and earrings and owns a large variety of them. But she only owns one necklace—a simple silver chain that she wears constantly.

Weapons:

Aside from her Pokemon (which will be described a little later on), Miyako has a few other ways to defend herself should the need arise. They are as follows:

Apollo 9.4" Multiglide Frying Pan without Lid: This frying pan is like an extension of Miyako when she wields it. It is top-of-the-line cookware and therefore incredibly durable. Crafted of a material known as 7-ply (copyright of Demeyere Cookware), there isn’t much that can take a hit from this deadly pan and not get knocked silly. The details of 7-ply are thus:

* Stainless steel, inside the pot
* A thin coating of pure aluminum for perfect adhesion
* A layer of aluminum alloy for heat conduction
* A combination of three special alloys with magnetic properties for optimal use in combination with induction cooking

Sunbeam 2-Slice Heritage Series Toaster: Miyako uses this toaster as a long-range weapon by holding it by its cord and lashing out at her enemies, and the stainless steel surface packs a wicked punch. So far, the cord has managed to stay attached to the toaster. She is careful to keep the weapon away from water, since she knows that would result in unpleasant electrocution.

Not only do these two items make good weapons, but they also enable Miyako to create her own delicious food while traveling. She stores these and other items in her trusty backpack.

Armor: None

Non-cookware backpack contents:

Pokedex: The standard-issue Pokedex for trainers. She was given this by Professor Spruce, a studier of Pokemon who is newly moved to the city of Celadon. He is more withdrawn than, say, the likes of the good Professor Oak or Birch, but Miyako managed to befriend him. In appreciation for her friendship, Spruce presented Miyako with a Pokedex soon after she decided to pursue Pokemon training.

MOTORAZR V3xx – Lavender: Miyako is never out of touch thanks to her lavender RAZR. Yes, cell phone manufacturers have spread into the realms of Pokemon. Because I said so. This sleek device has both video and camera capabilities and is Bluetooth-ready should she ever wish to utilize that feature. It’s also possible for her to listen to music with the phone, but because of the small storage capacity, Miyako much prefers to use…

iPod Classic: 80GB – Black: With all this space, Miyako has plenty of room for her music collection, which is quite extensive. Being from Japan, she has a love for J-pop/rock. She also enjoys most forms of techno and rock. But as a self-proclaimed music addict, she is not opposed to trying new tunes, except any that fall under the classification of rap or country.

Skills:

Miyako shows great promise as a Pokemon trainer, and her Pokemon recognize it. In addition to her skills as a trainer, her culinary abilities are unmatched in the entire Kanto region.

Magic: None

Strengths:

Though she has only recently started training, Miyako’s Pokemon are tough for their levels. She has a head for strategy and can usually out-think her opponents to win battles, even if the opposing Pokemon team is more powerful than her own. Should she be unable to use her Pokemon for any reason to defend herself, she has enough strength and poise to utilize her frying pan and toaster with formidable prowess.

Weaknesses:

Miyako does consider herself tough, but if she were to come up against someone well-trained in combative arts, she would more than likely be overpowered without much effort. Despite her ability to think quickly on her feet in battle situations, when her Pokemon are far outmatched, no amount of strategy will help her win. She can be somewhat flighty at times and can be easily distracted by such things as new jewelry.

Personality:

Miyako has several faces she can present to others, though that may be attributed to the fact that she’s female. There is the side of her that is passionate about what she does—cooking and training Pokemon. When it comes to those two areas, she is focused and serious about bettering herself. However, she also has a mischievous side that almost borders on devious. If someone wrongs her, she can be absolutely vicious in exacting revenge. But that only happens on rare occasions. It takes a lot for someone to bring out that side of her.

As mentioned before, she is a lover of music and almost constantly has her iPod headphones in her ears, except, of course, if she is at work. Music inspires her in both her cooking and her Pokemon training. She would probably go crazy if she could no longer listen to it for any reason.

Her more girly side is fascinated with style, and she is constantly on the lookout for new things to add to or change about her look. In this way, it could be said that she is slightly superficial. However, Miyako knows the importance of seeking that inner persona most people try to hide beneath their shells.

She can be a bit of a flirt but only when she is the one initiating the flirting. She knows she is attractive, but she does not seek to flaunt it to each and every male that crosses her path. In fact, she absolutely despises boys—especially those arrogant male trainers—who think a little sweet-talking will be enough to get some affection from her. Boys are something she finds interesting to play with, but she does not feel the need to be firmly attached to one of them in order to feel complete or some nonsense like that.

Bio:

Miyako was born the child of Thomas and Patricia Daniels, two Americans living in Tokyo, Japan, and she was originally named Kylie. Because the Daniels’ were struggling with finances at the time of her unexpected conception and birth, Kylie was put up for adoption so that she might have a better life than her parents could afford to give her. It wasn’t long before she was adopted by the Akiyama family—Yoshirou and Kaori. They gave her both their surname and a new name, Miyako, to replace her American one.

Growing up immersed in the Japanese culture, she quickly picked up the language. Even though she was clearly not Japanese in appearance, her new family and friends readily accepted her into the society. Her vague memories of her real parents faded quickly from her mind.

Yoshirou was a successful Japanese businessman, well-known in Tokyo, and so he had the means to provide Miyako with practically anything she desired. While most young girls might want their daddies to buy them clothes and make-up and jewelry, Miyako’s first love was cooking. She loved going to watch Japanese culinary genius at work, and so around the age of nine, Yoshirou pulled a few strings and enrolled her in one of the top culinary institutes in all of Japan so that Miyako might study under the great cooking masters. It turned out that she was a cooking child prodigy, able to pick up on the subtleties of food’s textures and flavors without much thought. It was like it was second nature to her. Her fame soon spread throughout Japan, and the rank and status of her clientele soon skyrocketed.

The day she turned thirteen, Miyako suddenly and inexplicably vanished. Despite the efforts of the Japanese authorities, no trace of her could be found either in Tokyo or in the surrounding area. No one knew what happened to her, and for several months, Yoshirou and Kaori were very distraught. Eventually, however, they were forced to go about their lives as normally as possible.

It turned out that Miyako had stumbled upon a strange opening in the supply room of the restaurant (attached to the main Nintendo building, curiously enough) in which she was currently employed. Her curiosity had gotten the better of her, and she had squeezed through to find herself in a strange land known as Kanto, one of the realms of Pokemon. Immediately, she recognized some of the creatures frolicking nearby from the Gameboy games she had played while still in Tokyo. So, this was where the game developers had gotten the idea, she thought to herself.

She should have been afraid or freaked out or something, but Miyako was calmly able to fit right into the society, having been familiar with the system because of the Pokemon games. Using her cooking skills, she was easily able to forge a comfortable living and was completely settled in Celadon City by the time she turned fourteen.

It was around this time when she befriended Professor Spruce and started to become more and more interested in training Pokemon of her own. Now that she didn’t have to worry about her financial situation as much, she felt she could devote time to developing her own team and possibly embarking on the Pokemon Gym Challenge. Since she has to hold down her job, her training has been much slower compared to the kid trainers who have parents to support them. So, in the two years she has been training, she has made only a little progress.
