Re: Lineage of the Shademan

Ja'gan Ender

Name: Ja'gan Red Sky Ender
Title: The Grey Mage
Age: 30
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Weight: 130 lbs.
Height: Approx. 6 ft. tall
Eyes: Ja'gan's eyes have the look of wisdom beyond his age, weathered by pain, loss, and betrayal. His eyes are usually squinted into slits, as if he is struggling to see.

Blood: Even the blood of Ja'gan is turning a greyish hue. If it touches any other flesh besides that of the grey mage, it will discolor the skin of the opponent for several days.

Mentality and Personality: The Apocrypha Ja'gan carried in his satchel bore a code on the second page, the code of the Order of Shikia. Ja'gan lives by this code, which states:

Thou shalt not be vengeful lest thy enemy striketh first.
Thou must be humble in all things.
Thy power must only be used for righteousness.
Thou must defend innocence, for it is sacred.
Betray the Order, and the very power you wield will consume thee.
Protect your allies, for friendship is a gift from above.

A key important factor in this is knowing that as you learn grey magic, your soul slowly is consumed by the force of the grey magick, and as your soul is gradually affected by this, it is perfectly fine as long as you follow the code of the order. If you do not, the grey magick corrupts your very spirit, and your soul destroys itself trying to break free. Ja'gan knew of this as he first began reading the book, yet his strong character ignored the thoughts of using these powers for useless, trivial things. He was young, and truly wanted such a great burden on his shoulders, a great responsibility. To this day he continues to follow the order, for it gives him inner strength. Besides this, Ja'gan is a kind, yet mysterious individual, and the tragedy of his being is that people wish to betray him as he remains loyal, his loved ones die as he lives, and he suffers great pain but wishes such things on no one.

Magic: Two hundred years ago, exactly one hundred wise sages, who all felt that normal magic wasn't potent enough, began to develop grey magic, also known as the art of Shikia, named after it's creator. They also felt that this magic should be used for justice, and should be used only by those with enough discipline to wield such a mighty force. They built a huge monastery, and invited the wild youth that lived in the forests nearby to become their students. One of the students, by the name of Jaerich, began learning the art of Shikia. He eventually began to believe that with this power, he could do anything. He attempted to take over the monastery, and the result of the Grey magic being used in such an impure fashion, namely a battle between the elders and a number of students, turned them all to stone. Eventually the statues that had been living things crumbled, and in every spot they once stood, stone flowers grew. Shikia, the originator of grey magic, had died long before Jaerich's wicked revolt, and her statue stands in the depths of the monastery's lowest floor, a monument to what the place once stood for. Perhaps Shikia's vengeful spirit was their undoing? It's probable, but no one truly knows.

Grey Magic, has the ability to mimic the power and appearance of other elements, in addition to many non-elemental attacks such as:

Static Shell- His hand glows grey, and the resulting touch temporarily freezes his enemies in place, their bodies encased in a static-like shell, which blocks out all senses. It also temporarily alters the person under the spell's molecular structure, allowing people to pass through them, as if they were non-existent.

Grey Ultima- By opening his left hand and charging the attack, he releases a pure, wide
Beam of powerful Grey Magic, which causes the surrounding area to darken by absorbing all light from surrounding objects. The enemy that it strikes loses their color for a brief period of time, forgetting how to use every magic technique they know during that period, and it causes Ja'gan himself to temporarily regain color, and this allows him to fight with much more physical prowess than usual. Note: he can't use grey magic while his body is colored.

Grey Matter- a technique that needs to be charged for a long period of time, this releases grey energy in the form of a cube. After it's composition is complete, Ja'gan tosses it at his enemy, and it liquefies on impact, wrapping them in viscous grey material, which holds them in place for Ja'gan to get a few blows in.

*Note: these are only key spells. Ja'gan can cast a few others. Also: the potency of Grey magick depends on the mood of the caster. It also allows him to levitate things, and other miscellaneous common magical abilities. Ja'gan says "Flariez" after casting raw grey magic, and then it takes the shape of a flame; the same technique works for lighting and water with "Lectriez" and "Aquariez."

Weapon: Ja'gan carries the blade known as Bellero, which bears the insignia of his family, a raven carrying a snake in its talons. It has been granted the power to dispel all magic it touches by the might of Shikia. The blade is an ivory white, the intricate design is red, and the handle is an ashy black. It once belonged to his father, and was an ordinary blade then, but now it is considered a powerful relic.

Armour: Ja'gan can use his magic to surround himself with a protective grey aura, which lasts for a limited amount of time, and deflects magic. Only physical blows harm him while this barrier is up, and it only works three times per battle.

Energy: Ja'gan's greyish skin and hair seems to indicate that he is elderly, and that his physical prowess would be very limited, but the opposite is true. Because of the same magic that turns him this bland color, he is allowed much more energy than a standard human, and if he is low on magic, he can sacrifice physical energy for mana.

Strength: Ja'gan is extremely silent, and the rumor that is passed through towns is that he doesn't breathe at all, and is a ghost. This is false. In fact, whenever he does breathe, he exhumes a faint wisp of smoke. He has been known to sneak up on those that have stolen gold from him, and steal it back without their notice. His swordplay skills are also exceptional, and of course, his magic is a major strength.

Weakness: Ja'gan, due to his code, is opposed to the murder or injury of innocents, and he isn't too good at fist fighting. When those of righteousness are harmed around him, he feels a pain in his chest, right on his heart. Why this happens, no one knows.

Astral Projection: One of Ja'gan's new, yet rarely used skills, Ja'gan now possesses the awesome ability to separate his soul from his body, in the form of a semi-physical essence composed of equal parts soul and mana. When he does this, his original body turns to stone. In the essence form, Ja'gan can pass through solid objects at will, and move at increased speeds, casting magic with greater power. This is risky, because if Ja'gan stays in this form, he is at risk of being pulled into the afterlife, permanently. He can still be injured like this, but it is much harder and you'll have better luck at hurting him with magic. In this form, he basically looks like a static-like mixture of grays and whites that faintly resemble his body's shape, with ectoplasmic tendrils that reach out in all directions, and white eyes.

Appearance: Ja'gan's skin is a light greyish color, unlike that of a human, and his hair is a dark grey.

His fine hair always hangs down straight, with the exception of the rooster tail at the back. The large, crooked straw hat that he usually wears usually covers this up.

Ja'gan wears a thin white shirt that he covers with a button-less, long grey jacket covered in ineligible symbols that reaches to the floor. He made that jacket from a grey tapestry he found in the temple of the Grey Sages. He wears thick black breeches that are partially covered up by his tall grey boots.

Ja'gan's build is about average, but slightly tall. He is moderately muscular, and it is slightly visible through his thin white shirt.

He wears a long necklace with the emblem of a grey crescent moon around his neck, and always has his sword on hand.

History: Ja'gan was born into a rich family, and it seemed his father was the only one who cared about him. Until he reached the age of 18, Ja'gan's father Arzael would take him on long trips to the forest, where he taught him how to live in the wild, by way of hunting and gathering. Ja'gan's life began turning for the worse when Arzael died from a terrible affliction. Ja'gan chose to leave his family shortly after, to set out on his own. Ja'gan encountered an ancient temple during his travels. The entire place was crawling with vines, and stone flowers decorated the entrance. Ja'gan was enthralled, and he explored the place. He found the only company for him here was the thousands of stone flowers that decorated the walls. He pushed open a rusty door, the only thing in this place that wasn't grey, and descended down the stairs into the basement. In that damp, stygian, subterranean vault he found a book entitled "The Apocrypha of the Grey." He read from it, and discovered the former inhabitants of this ancient place were grey magi, a mysterious group of magic users solely dedicated to magic revolving around the sacred color grey. The Apocrypha was a compilation of all the Grey magic spells they had ever created, there being over a thousand in all. Ja'gan found a large tapestry on the wall, and using the sewing skills his mother taught him, he made it into a simple cloak. In the basement, he also found a tall straw hat, and put it on, also. He then spent many months in that empty place, studying the old tome. Eventually he left, but not before thanking the Mages, wherever they were, by bowing before the Monastery's entrance. He has spent his life since, honing his sword skills and Grey magic, in case he ever had to defend himself, not being one to be pushed around. He encountered another man by the name of Velios, who betrayed his friendship to Ja'gan by attempting to take the Apocrypha from him while he slept. Ja'gan awoke, and stopped the thief, who he had saved from a wild beast earlier. Velios was greedy, and he wanted all of that power to himself, once he had seen Ja'gan save him using that very book. Ja'gan left that town, knowing that the greedy heart of Velios is plotting against him.

The next important chapter of Ja'gan's life is his return to the temple from which he was taught so much, to meet the very spirit of the person who developed grey magic, Mistress Shikia herself. He then learned that Grey Magic was actually a sort of extension to the soul, magic that only those with souls that already have similar moral codes to the code of the order, could master completely. He then went to war with the resurrected Jaerich and his followers. In exchange for his victory, his sword was given a mystical magic dispelling ability. He also received the crescent moon amulet, enhanced power over grey magic, and the power to call upon the spirit of Shikia.
