Re: Insaney's Sane Characters

Name: Rain Seraph
Occupation: Devil Hunter/settled down.
Age/Birthdate: 980 Years/Birthdate: 1030 AD, Day/Month Unknown.
Apparent Age: Mid 20s
Gender: Male
Race: Angelus Tristis, mixed with Nosferatu. (A grim angel; an unbridled angel with black wings, mixed with a creature of the night; a vampire)
Height: 6’ 1”
Weight: 143lbs
Eye Color: A striking, intense gold colour.
Hair Color/Style: His hair is straight and jet black in colour. The front is long enough to reach his eyes and the back reaches a little down his neck. Some ends flip out, and gives the hairstyle an unruly charm.

General Appearance:

About the first thing you’ll notice is his eyes. Sharp and strong, piercing eyes that have glimmers of confidence in them, they can appear to stare right through you, no matter your façade. His face is generally soft looking, clean and fair, often with a gentle smile. However, rarely, that smile is made to fade and seriousness sets in, one will witness a glare that rival’s Raisha’s in terms of intensity, and coldness.

Rain is tall with a lean, not thin, frame. Under his clothes is a very toned physique and agile body that is well built for extremely swift and powerful movements when necessary, but also for graceful and gentler movements outside of fighting. The muscles on his body are defined, but not huge or bulging, fitting with his frame, even on his fair, lean torso.

His complexion is fair, almost pale, but not inhumanly so. His light skin is marred at places due to several events and encounters with beings of equal or even greater power. These wounds can never be fully healed, thereby leaving the scars, along with memories. The first and foremost is the most noticeable, as it’s the only one out in the open; the small puncture wounds on the left side of his neck, left by his sister Raisha when she bit him and turned him into a vampire. There is a slash scar located on the left side of his torso, at the waist; another wound left by his sister and the Hellfire sword she had wielded. On his palm, there is a straight, almost horizontal scar, caused by ‘negotiating’ with the Angel of Death; catching a blade in the midst of it. Another set of scars is located on his back; from his spine running diagonally up to his right shoulder blade, there are four slash marks, made by Mastema, one of Lucifer’s generals.

Rain’s four black wings are ethereal and massive. The two upper wings have a twelve foot wingspan, while the two lower wings have a ten foot wingspan. The wings are as black as night, it is hard to discern the thick, soft, velvety feathers upon them. If these are plucked and held, they immediately disintegrate. They can appear and disappear from his back in the blink of an eye.

Weapons:
Lucitor and Luminos Ascuţiş: Twin swords gained from Azrael, Heaven’s assassin, the Angel of Death. The swords' blades reflect and refract light, similarly to a prism. Azrael himself described them with such words: “Ask ten men the colour of this sword as it flies through battle, and you will hear ten different answers.” It changes colour according to the light’s intensity and direction. In the shade, it is pitch black, in the light; it can appear as any other colour, including white.

The sword is shaped similarly to a shamshir, though the angle of the curve is less than the conventional ones, so it is a little bit straighter. The handguard can only be described as a violent wave crashing into a short wall, with the wave crystallizing at that moment. It’s made in such a way that the top of the crystallized ‘wave’ partially protects the knuckles when the sword is held.

When not in use, the sword breaks down into particles that render themselves invisible. They can join together to form bigger particles (as big as your thumbnail), which would make them visible, and shine with a silvery hue. They can be directed and controlled by both hand movements and commands, and can be used to attack. They are extremely sharp, and since the larger particles number in the thousands, they can be used to shred enemies.

The Gauntlet: The gauntlet amplifies the inherited powers (from his father), including special powers and basic powers like strength and speed. It is made by Reorx, the God of the Forge, who molded it with a special metal that responds to the user's state of mind. When not in use, it condenses into a flexible, cloth-like wrist wrap. Rain owns the right gauntlet while Raisha owns the left. They are a of a ruddy/rusty colour, and forged to make it look as if it belonged to a suit of armor (in Rain's abilities, it does).

Armor: Other than the clothes on his back when he gets into a fight, nothing.

Powers/Magic/Skills:

Sapientia:
A defensive technique where the enemy's sword is stopped by using the bare hands, no matter how hard it is swung. Although useless in a real fight, it’s more to show determination, fearlessness and confidence during a negotiation about to go sour.
Limits: None
Side-Effects: None

Perceptia:
A powerful passive ability. He can perceive the true nature of beings, no matter their power over illusions or ability to lie. All it takes is a blink and that demon or angel or whatever else disguised as a human will be revealed to him, without the disguised person knowing. This passive ability can also sense if they are around him, and how powerful they are.
Limits: None.
Side-Effects: None.

Inviora:
He can automatically heal himself from basic wounds. For more advanced injuries (losing a limb, etc), drinking the blood of others can allow him to regenerate that limb. Wounds that cannot be regenerated are those that are inflicted by demonic or holy energy on par or above his own strength to heal. His blood can also be used to heal others. On humans, the healing effect is most potent, and can regenerate lost limbs and bones or even lost organs. They have to drink the blood, or it has to be applied to the wounded area. The graver the injury, the more blood is required.
Limits: Can automatically heal only small wounds on himself.
Side-Effects: Feeding on blood repeatedly or taking too much blood in one instance, can initiate a temporary blood-lust that rages inside him, forcing him to keep feeding until he is filled. The blood-lust can be fought down, however, with strength of will.

Aequo
The ability to immediately use the full potential of an angel, devil or daevas arm upon touching it. The abilities and potential of the items are "read" and present themselves into the user's mind.
Limits: None
Side Effects: None

The gauntlet amplification provides him with further powers:

Unbreakable
An innate power that absorbs the energy from any attack. Melee attacks and projectiles would stop dead on coming into contact with him without causing any harm. Though he must be in the right mindset and aware of danger. Without Reorx's gauntlet active to amplify this power, however, he can only absorb and release a tiny amount and would be at a severe disadvantage if facing anything tougher than a mere human without it. While wearing the gauntlet, however, it amplifies his abilities to what it would have been if they were mature, and grant him several more abilities.
Limits: Without the gauntlet active, he can absorb as much as just one swipe of a sword or a single bullet, to give a measurement. Any more and it causes a backfire which weakens him to exhaustion and disables his power for a small while.
Side Effects: None.

Charge and Break
When the gauntlet is active, it absorbs energy from an attack, be it magical, physical, melee or ranged. The more power is absorbed depending on the type of attack. However different types of attacks are affected differently. Melee attacks bounce right off after coming into contact, while magical attacks are drawn and absorbed into the gauntlet (this effect is known as Breaking), while projectiles will hit and be stopped dead in their tracks with no effect. The energy from the attack is absorbed (called Charging) into his body, with the help of the gauntlet.
Limits: The gauntlet's power still has its limits on how much power it can withstand, though it seems to be immeasurable. Absorbing too much will cause a backfire which will turn the gauntlet back into a wrist wrap and all the power will be released, harming both Rain and his anyone or anything in his surroundings.
Side Effects: None

Release
The release of the pent up power held within the gauntlet. It appears as swift flash of white from the palm of his hands, and harms anything that he touches right after its activation. The amount of damage done depends on the amount of power that was stored.
Limits: Amount of power emitted is limited by how much is stored
Side Effects: None

Real Impact
Basically a powerful punch or kick combined with a controlled, small amount of power released upon impact. Damage depends on the amount of power released upon contact.
Limits: Amount of power emitted is limited by how much is stored
Side Effects: None

Distorted Real Impact
A powerful punch or kick in which ALL power is released upon impact. There must be a sufficient amount stored for it to be truly effective. Upon release, the area around him seems to visually distort, showing the amount of devastating power released in that single blow.
Limits: Amount of power emitted is limited by how much is stored
Side Effects: None

Ultimate
The harnessing of the stored power to create an impervious shell that encases his entire body. It resembles a suit of armor, extending from the gauntlet. The armor is a ruddy/rusty colour, and has a worn scarf around the neck and a cape around the waist. Rain's voice becomes lower and rougher filtered through the helmet, which has no eye slits; just engravings that resemble a pair.

The armor is impervious. As in, nothing can destroy or penetrate it. No sort of magic or physical attack. In fact, the armor absorbs the power within the attacks and can send it right back if he so wishes. Or the power can be stored as normal. However each attack he is able to connect has the power of a Real Impact. The shell lasts for as long as the power he has stored lasts, or as long as he keeps receiving power (meaning the more he is attacked, the more power he gains, the longer the ability can run).

The ability also increases his strength to an immeasurable amount. To the point where he could lift a tank with one hand without breaking a sweat. This strength combined with Real Impact make this ability a devastating offense and defense.
Limits: Lasts as long as the gauntlet has power.
Side Effects: None.

Battle Strengths:
Rain is extremely agile. Even extending down to his "quick fingers", he is a master of sleight of hand and pickpocketing. Along with being well versed in the handling of different fighting styles and weapons, he is observant and aware of his surroundings at all times, even when asleep. He is also nocturnal, being part vampire.

Being a devil hunter, he knows how to counter and deal with most supernatural nuisances or great threats. His knowledge about both demons and angels alike are extensive, and sometimes sought after by others. His soft appearance and smile is not a guise, but it can certainly make others underestimate him. While he mainly pulls his sword for a fight, he can use his agility and powers to his advantage even if unarmed, and can take immense amounts of pain through sheer force of will. Rain is also extremely determined in anything he does, and will accomplish almost anything he sets his mind to.

Battle Weaknesses:
Rain has very few weaknesses. Perhaps he is naïve at times; a flaw he tries to get rid of. Physically, his only weakness is silver, which reacts with his blood and forms a poison that slowly moves through his veins. The poison can be seen in his veins as they turn his blood black. This can be reversed by drinking fresh blood.

Personality: Rain usually always has a caring, gentle disposition. He might come off as somewhat oblivious or clumsy at times. He is always observing and aware, even like this. He is usually gentle when talking, his voice rarely rising.

When something threatens, he can come off as unflappable; sometimes even enraging or intimidating an extremely dangerous enemy with his calm mannerisms or outright taunting. The closer you hit to home when it comes to threats, the more of his tranquil fury you invoke. If, however, you break through that and cause him to unleash his fury full on, what you’ll get is a brutal, calculating bullet that will continuously divine ways to get the upper hand, and will not stop until he is dead or you are.

He is however, intelligent to know when not to fight, but try to negotiate. Rain’s charms, gentle demeanor, force of will and strong determination can usually win the day. If, however, this does not work, and a fight erupts, he will dish it out and take it as much as he can.

Likes: Raisha, his sister. His new family. The taste of blood; being a vampire. Different foods, sweets, including ice cream. He’d rather have mayo over ketchup and mustard. Close friends. Music, piano, especially.

Dislikes: Demons who represent destructive chaos. Angels who represent ignorant law. Mustard. Anyone or anything who dares to threaten his friends or family. The hunger for blood.

Fears: That he’ll outlive everyone he loves, including the world itself. It’s not a prominent fear, but it’s there if he thinks about it. Another fear is that he’ll become weak, and not be able to protect the ones he cares about.

Virtues: Calm, intelligent, caring, determined, strong.

Vices: He does like the taste of blood, he appears to be suspicious of some people, and their motivation/goals.

History:

The Middle Ages; a time where soil was tilled with swords, and nourished with blood. A time when the sky always seemed grey and heavy with tears, always cold and foreboding; but also a time where new beginnings were taking place. The town of Tartu in Estonia had just been founded, and people were moving here to hopefully escape contagious poverty and hope for a better life under the one who founded such a place, Yaroslav the Wise.

One man, with pregnant wife and a daughter, came to this place, seeking refuge from pursuers. When asked, he would not say why or where he came from, but only tell them their names. Lahash was the man’s name, Vihma was the woman’s. Their daughter’s name was given as Raisha. It was here, in this place, that her brother was born.

Despite their kindness, they were feared by most. The newborn and the girl both had the strong, piercing eyes of their father, while their mother had more serene, green eyes. They all lived together near the edge of town, in a shack built mostly of wood and scraps. They had what they needed to get by, for a few years.

After those few years, things changed. The child couldn’t remember his father, so it was like he was never there at all. While the mother cried at the loss of her husband, life moved on; things got harder. Even more so when she began to lose her colour, falling ill, and then dying a few months later.

They had to beg for food then. Everyone around was either too poor or did not care enough to take them in. From a young age, Raisha was taken away from her brother, spending all day, or sometimes more than a day, away from him. Each time she came back, she came back broken, the glimmer lost in her eyes, but she came back with coins, which meant… food. At what cost? She didn’t say, or maybe they were both too young to understand.

And this would continue for years. When Rain was just entering his teens, they were still living on the streets. The town had changed; it was being built up more and more. Even their shack was no more. But change would soon be upon them; Raisha’s eyes had that glimmer again; but something was different. Her skin was as pale as the moon she was sitting under, and her voice was louder, but sweeter than usual. She said she’d found someone who wanted to help them, but only if she took a little bite…

He felt his life draining away from him then. He did not know how long he saw black, or what place he was at when he began hear the waves, and the swishing and splashing of an oar hitting the water. When he regained a little more of himself, he opened his eyes and saw a blood-red, overcast sky overhead with what seemed to be embers falling from the ruddy clouds. When he sat up, there was one other person on the boat, someone in a dark cloak, as black as the night. He… or she was pushing the boat onward with the oar, towards the horizon. That’s when he saw that the water itself was not water, but an ocean of blood. Pale faces could be seen just under the surface, and hands rose up to caress the bow of the boat. It was frightening; he knew it was, but he felt… lifeless, like he couldn’t move away, or react. It felt as if he were dreaming, even more so when they finally landed and he was dragged on for what seemed like hours, through the bloody moaning and screaming, to the center of the place.

Pashs, ol oadriax ollog ollor drillpi loan. Is what the black mist said. It was a language he’d never heard before, but somehow he knew what it said; Child, you owe me a great debt. It spoke again, explaining what he had to do. It told him where to go, who he would meet, but what would happen was up to him, but whatever happened, that was his destiny. “Kus on minu ode…?” Where is my sister?

Gnonp oi da, darsa ol gemeganza noasmi.

She is there, where you will be.

What else could he do? There was nothing he could fight against right now. He felt so drained, his skin felt as if it were clinging to his bones. But when he appeared in front of the castle, all of that seemed to disappear; he wasn’t as pale, or skinny, or weak. Not only that, but he felt somewhat older as well. He found that the large, heavy castle doors were easy to push open.

Inside was cold and damp, almost devoid of life. Not a rat scurrying anywhere; but he knew there were people here. He smelled them; as if… smelling their blood. The scent lead him to a woman first; familiar woman, with gold eyes and blonde hair, like his sister, but she seemed nothing like that broken toy years ago, she seemed happy but… sinister. It was like every grin, every glimmer of her eyes had an underlying meaning.

She was surprised to see him, asking him where he’d been all ‘these years’. Was it really that long? She began telling him about this man who had promised to help them, how she’d been living with him, right here. She told him the man’s name, Mitica, and she told him about his past. How he ‘escaped’ from Romania and fled straight to Estonia with something extremely valuable.

“Kas sa toesti mu ode…?” Are you really my sister…? She gave him an emotional stare; tears welling up in her eyes, but her teeth were gritting against each other, her fangs were visible. She accused him of coming to take away her happiness. Raisha pounced on him, determined to do protect what she believed.

She was not his sister anymore.

It ended brutally. She had to be stopped somehow; she just kept coming. No matter his pleads or retaliation. It ended with a broken wooden pillar sticking out of her chest. She wasn’t moving anymore. That… was the end, then. He had nothing left; so in the end, he kept moving forward, deeper into the castle.

Mitica was his name. He looked no older than twenty, but he had a refined, ancient air about him. Everything about him, from his clothes to his eyes seemed wealthy, but drenched in that abhorrent yet sweet, bloody scent.

“Cine esti tu?” He asked. Romanian. How did he know? How did he understand? Rain did not answer, for the man quickly figured out who he was facing, just by looking at his eyes. “Raisha fratele lui?” He asked if Rain was Raisha’s sister; Rain only nodded in response, but his eyes were weary and set straight ahead, like a remorseful killer unable to look upon his own guilt. Mitica quickly grasped this, and it seemed a slight panic set in, he gripped the armrests of his throne tighter. “Stii cine sunt eu…? Eu sunt Dracul!

I am the Devil.

“Olen nainud Kurat. Ma ei karda.”

I have seen the Devil. I am not afraid.

Rain pounced on him. Mitica struggled greatly, but like Raisha, Rain kept getting up after each subsequent blow. He was very powerful and very fast, but it was soon over when Rain grabbed him and would not let go, even as his fangs were sunk into Mitica’s neck. He held on to him like a predator latched on to his prey, and sucked his veins dry. Mitica still struggled, warning him about what he was doing. He was playing into the hands of the true enemy. But the taste of blood was too much, and Rain could not help it.

Rain now had Mitica’s blood in him, and that was what Lucifer wanted; the gathered blood of all thirteen of Lilith’s children in one vessel. But Rain wanted no part of this anymore. He ran. He continuously fought the waves of lesser demons Lucifer sent after him; he was to be captured alive, or just barely.

He stayed alive, fighting alone for years, until the Livonian Crusade happened in 1193. People heard of a ‘gold-eyed man’ fighting against devilish creatures. They didn’t know about his nature, or why he had frightening gold eyes, but because he was willing to take on such monstrosities, the crusaders coerced him into coming along with them. This was basically a bloody door to the world, centuries of experiences, and reunions with his… not so dead sister.

A drastic change happened many years later; when he encountered D.A.M. agency (Demons Are Monsters). Along with another vampire, Vanyel, he thwarted their operations, but not before they made two vampire girls orphans by killing their mother in front of them. Deciding that the best thing to do would be to split them up to be safe, the stoic Rain took the young Jessica Black with him. This little girl, however, saw him as no more than someone to rely on, like a brother. In order to get her to smile, Rain began to adopt a cheerier disposition. They grew closer, and Jessica grew into a fine lady vampire.

But as luck would have it, happiness was destroyed by an obsessed stalker. A strong enemy that Rain had made before he met Vanyel and Jessica. The girl was raped, and brutally murdered by this man. Rain, distraught at losing the closest thing he had to a daughter, re-entered Hell of his own volition, giving himself up to Lucifer in exchange for Jessica’s life. The deal was made, and Jessica lived again, but the price was massive. Rain’s blood was used to open one of Hell’s seals, and a Hellgate, through which the infamous Four Horsemen galloped through, increasing their hold and deterioration on the world.

However, before the other seals were undone, Rain was rescued by six Archangels who took action and charged through the gate. They decided to save him, by entering him into a covenant. They converted him into a Grim Angel; basically, an angel of the night instead of the light. However, they demanded a steep payment which felt more like punishment. In order to be given the weapons of a Grim Angel, they took away his power of flight; but that was not enough. His mission was to undo what he did, and hunt every last greater demon that came through the open gate. And, he was never allowed to actively seek his daughter again.

Things would change again when he encountered Raisha for the last time. This time, she had changed. For the better? He couldn’t tell as soon as he met her, but she had not attacked him again. Instead, she begged for forgiveness, but with tearless eyes. He admitted that he was suspicious; but like before, she kept at it. In the end, after a small while of travelling together, the sibling feeling felt… familiar, again.

And things would change yet again with a faithful encounter with a certain fiery Latina on a besieged cruise ship. This lead to a chain of events that would change his life forever; Rain had found someone to be with, from another world, through the Dome. This other world opened a door another opportunity: a reunion Jessica, Rain’s daughter. There would be no angels around to hold Rain to his covenant, and no one to separate them ever again. This dream came true when the Dome itself directed Jessica into Cadenza’s house, and into a family that she’d always wanted, and needed.

But it was to be short lived. An unwise kissed that had taken place between Cadenza and Descartes on Rain and Cadenza's wedding day had driven a wedge between the two; and Rain found himself facing issues and struggles of trust and forgiveness. Not being able to fully forgive and trust his wife, they split apart.
