Re: Homework Help

It would help to clarify exactly what sort of assignment you are doing, but it seems you are looking for examples of fear from both works, amirite?

Now its been a while since I read LotF, and I've never watched BfC in its entirety, but I might be able to help you out a little.

By using the standard definition of fear, it is easy to see fear occur in LotF. And its not just any type of fear either, the children on the island fear each other. One part of Lord of the Flies I clearly remember is one of the kids sees the head of the boar slain by that barbaric tribe of boys in the book, and he sees the flies and corruption plaguing the pig's head (the "Lord of the Flies"). At this point, the boy seems to realize the real death and decay resulting from the killing that the barbarian boys are so willing to apply to even fellow people, and it scares him ****less (The head even "talks" to him). If you read the book, you probably recall the scene better than I do, but it seems like a good example.

As for Moore's film, I imagine you could find a clip of him interviewing some scared teen not willing to go to school because they're afraid of other teens (now doesn't that sound just like Lord of the Flies?).

Sorry I'm no help, I might actually be of more use if I actually knew what I was talking about, lol.
