The Phoenix Mother
Name: Jaina Alsardor
Titles/Other Names: Lady Jameson of Brackmill, Kaala the Phoenix Mother.
Age: 27
Date of Birth: June 24th, 1814
Place of Birth: England
(All of the above are in regard to Jaina's current lifespan.)
Race: Phoenix
Race Explanation: Jaina is in reality, a phoenix. However, at the moment of her last death, her ashes were separated. A creature called a Halji managed to steal roughly half of them. The Halji used a series of dark spells to focus the ashes into the body of a human girl. Jaina always believed she was human, but after a recent series of events she learnt the truth. During that time, she found her other halve, or rather, it found her. After having fused with the Phoenix Kaala, Jaina has regained all her phoenix abilities but has retained her human form.
Sex: Female
Hair: Auburn, reaches down to just below her shoulders. She nearly always wears it loosely. Occasionally, strands of it look as though they are on fire. Embers have been known to fly from the auburn locks, most people think it is a trick of their eye, but in fact, her hair is always alit in harmless, ethereal flames.
Eyes: Jaina’s irises are mass of swirling flames. They flicker like fire licking the bough of a bare tree. Her pupils are normal, as are the other parts of her eyes.
Phoenix Sight: As a phoenix, Jaina sees the world in a different light to other beings. Her vision has a slightly reddish tinge to it, and allows her to see clearly and more sharply than the average creature, even allowing her to see in the dark. It also picks up on heat traces, effectively letting her see living creatures through most obstacles.
Weight: 46kg
Height: 5’6”
Accessories: Jaina has a small, marble touchstone with a unique angelic rune on it. The rune is a combination of the runes for beauty and protection. The touchstone was made for her by Mesfido and she holds it extremely dear. Its protective properties will activate if she is unable to defend herself.
Weapon:
Flamentine and Fuego
Flamentine and Fuego are two twin blades. Both swords are identical in every way from the bright red curved sabre like blades to the ivory coloured hilts. The blades of both weapons have identical runes carved into their flat sides. The edges of the weapons are golden. They have no magical or significant powers. They belonged to Jaina’s mother. They were in fact forged on Phoenix Fire, and therefore are the perfect medium through which to channel it.
Armour: An extremely light leather vest worn under her dress. It only protects her from weak attacks.
Strengths:
Jaina is quick and acrobatic. She is skilled with her two blades, easily capable of defending and attacking with both. She is also good at concealing herself and employing stealth. Her Phoenix abilities make her an extremely capable warrior mage, and also render her immune to fire attacks. Her intense emotions can aid her in combat.
Weakness:
Jaina is light and lacks any major physical strength, making her easy to knock about and overpower. She relies on her speed, agility and Phoenix Skills to win fights. Her biggest weakness is water. She can swim and such, but when assaulted by large quantities of water elemental, her strength begins to wither. Her Phoenix Skills lose potency and effectiveness.
Skills/Magic: Jaina has a wide array of Phoenix Skills, along with some basic concealment skills. She is will often use shadows, or any cover for that matter, to sneak up on any enemies.
Phoenix Skills
Phoenix Fire – After having fused with Kaala and the Phoenix Core Jaina has regained all her Phoenix abilities. The most powerful of these is her Phoenix Fire. Every Phoenix has their own unique flame. Jaina’s is known the Flames of Passion and is drawn from her personality and inner self. The strength of her Phoenix Fire can vary greatly depending on the situation. If a flurry of intense emotion overtakes her, it will be lethal, if she is feeling depressed, they will be harmless. Her Phoenix Fire is bright orange, with wisps of icy blue.
Though Phoenix Fire seems very much like ordinary fire in appearance it is completely different. Rather than producing heat, it produces pure magical energy. His energy still burns, but in a different sense to heat. It is not heat that creates the burns, but rather the huge abundance of energy. Jaina can manipulate this energy into several different forms and techniques. The fire of the Flames of Passion cannot damage Jaina.
Phoenix Rush – Jaina focuses the Phoenix Fire around her body. She forms two flaming wings from her shoulder blades and fiery talons upon her hands. She uses the wings to propel herself forward, and rushes at the target. She then lashes out with the talons, causing severe burn damage and also some minor tissue ripping to anything that gets in their way. The wings and talons disappear after the attack has ended.
Phoenix Slash – Jaina draws Flamentine and Fuego from her waist and holds one in either hand. She focuses her Phoenix Fire into each one, than brings the two together. As she holds them side by side, a large cord of Phoenix Energy grows from the tips. This cord eventually extends to length of roughly sixteen feet. Jaina can swing this whip like extension around her and use it as a weapon. If she wishes, she can separate the two blades, and make two individual whips, each approximately eight feet in length.
Phoenix Tear – As a phoenix, Jaina’s tears have potent healing properties. However, creating a Phoenix Tear requires huge quantities of energy and drains Jaina substantially. Her tears have no effect on herself, but can cure any illness or injury, with the exception of death, when used on another living creature.
The Phoenix Core
The Phoenix Core is a giant tree that is the centre of Jaina’s phoenix powers. She is closely linked it, and it resides within her. Its state greatly effects her own. If it begins to wither, so does she. From time to time, Jaina must call it out and regenerate it with her touch. At this moment in time she is both at her strongest, and her weakest. When the tree is on the physical plane, it increases her strength tenfold, however, it also makes an extremely vulnerable target. If an enemy was to attack and destroy the Phoenix Core, Jaina would die with it. When a phoenix’s Core dies, they can no longer revive themselves from their ashes. It means the end of their existence.
Concealment Skills
Smoke Bomb-Jaina creates a small blast of smoke from her Phoenix Fire and uses it to blind her foe.
Personality:
Jaina is cheerful and active person. She’s nearly always full of energy and joy, though her lows are often extremely miserable. She finds it very easy to get on with most people due to her sociable nature. She often will quickly take a liking towards new people. She is warm and kind hearted, as well as understanding. Many people would view her as a motherly figure. She is very caring and protective.
In a fight, it’s Jaina’s passion that stands out. Her fiery emotions can both aid and hinder her. She attacks aggressively, with rapid and ferocious attacks. She generally prefers to fight hand to hand rather than with her fire element.
Appearance:
Jaina is slender and quite tall. Her auburn hair reaches just below her narrow shoulders. It normally is worn loosely and is slightly wild in appearance. It sometimes covers her flaming eyes, hiding them from sight. Her skin is smooth and lightly tan. She has high cheekbones and small rosy lips. Jaina wears an emerald dress that hangs tightly to her figure and flows out about her legs. There is a slit running up her right leg which gives the dress more manoeuvrability. The silk dress has swirling designs imprinted on it in a light green tone. A loose leather belt is wrapped around her waist, from which her twin swords, Flamentine and Fuego, hang. She wears a pair of flat, worn sandals.
History:
November 14th, 1823
I’m scared. Mother is really angry.
Me and Sarah were playing at princesses. She was Princess Georgia. I was the evil Princess Beatriz. The game was getting really good. Sarah was running around the house, trying to stop my husband, the Count Monte, catching her. She had his crown you see. She had snuck into the palace and stolen it. Me and him had her cornered in the sitting room, just by the hearth. Suddenly, the fire got real strong. The rest of the room went dark. Sarah started to cry. I looked at my hands. They were burning. I started to scream.
Mother came running into the room. She gasped when she saw the flames in my fingers. Sarah jumped over to her, crying her eyes out. Mother quickly sent her from the room. Then she stared at me. I was still screaming.
“Jaina! What do you think you are doing?!”
“I don’t… I don’t know! Make it stop! Please, make it stop”
She grabbed my wrists. My hands were still burning. She placed her hand over mine. The fire stopped. She stared at me. Her eyes were terrifying, I’ve never seen her so mad before.
November 17, 1823
I overheard Mother and Father talking last night. I was pretending to be asleep. They were talking outside my bedroom door. What I heard frightens me.
“Richard, she’s coming of age.”
“I know, Caroline. I know. She’s just so young still. I never thought it would be this soon.”
“It’s too late for us to help her now. Nel’hava will have already heard about what happened. There’s nothing more we can do. We’ve protected her as long as possible.”
“I won’t let them take her. I won’t.”
“We won’t be able to stop them.”
“Caroline, my love, together we can. Together we can.”
Mother had started crying. I could hear Father comforting her. What were they talking about? I cannot ask. They will know I was listening then.
December 25th, 1823
Finally, it’s Christmas day. I’ve been waiting for this day so long. Mother and Father have told me they have something really special for me. They’re not awake yet, I couldn’t sleep with the anticipation. It must be about six in the morning.
We’ve just finished dinner. Mother got very drunk. I’ve never seen her drunk before, I never want to again. It was a horrid sight. I swear I won’t ever drink. She was really upset, she started screaming and crying again. Father dragged her away in the end. Before he managed to get her to bed she grabbed me and held me close. Her eyes were full of fear. She kept saying one thing again and again,
“Run away, Jaina, run away!
Oh, my present was a ticket to Scotland. I’m meant to be going to live with Auntie Catherine in spring. I don’t want to go, not with Mother how she is. She was in tears when she gave me the letter. Something isn’t right. I can’t help but think of that day with Sarah and the fire. I’m sure this all has something to do with that.
April 12th, 1824
Mother is dead. Father is dead. Soldiers came into the house. They tried to take me. Mother saved me. She saw them coming. She told me and Sarah to go to the basement. There was a secret passage hidden there. She gave me just two things, and one word; two swords and a name -“Eire.”
I can hear her begging with the soldiers as we walked through the passage. Eventually the cries died out.
April 13th, 1824
Me and Sarah followed the passage. It came up next to a dock. There was a boat waiting. The captain beckoned us over when he saw us. He looked as scared as I felt. Sarah couldn’t stop crying. I can’t get her sobs out of my mind.
We’re on the boat. The sea is rough and the weather is horrible. I asked the boat keeper where we’re going he said one word – “Eire.”
As the boat left harbour, I heard a dreadful roar. It was like one of the dragons from the fairytales. It sounded furious.
January 5th, 1841
I think that’s the year. I don’t even know if they exist here. I followed Crécasta’s directions. She told me that high in the mountains I’d find a door. Rumour had it that it led to a magical realm. I found the door, and I went through. The rumours were true.
They call it the Dome.
Jaina’s past is filled with mystery. She knows little of the truth. She was raised by Duke Richard Jameson and his wife Caroline. They lived in northern England. At the age of ten Jaina and her younger sister Sarah were forced to flee. Their mother gave them but one clue – Eire. They got on a ship and entrusted their wellbeing to a simple shipman. The boat took them to Ireland.
Upon landing, the sisters travelled to an area controlled by a group of humanlike peoples called the Dúileach. They took the pair under their care.
After living with the Dúileach for thirteen years, Jaina began to investigate the truth of her past. She was able to come across only a few facts. There was one that stood out above all the rest. She was adopted. When she told Sarah, the young girl became outraged, saying that if her parents hadn’t ever taken Jaina into their home, they’d still be alive. Sarah ran away.
Jaina learned to fight under the tutelage of Crécasta, one of the Dúileach Leaders. When Crécasta decided that she couldn’t teach Jaina anymore, she advised her to seek out the Dome, a mythical place of training. The young fiery woman followed her teacher’s advice and travelled to the Dome. She has been living there since.
During her training in the Dome, Jaina met an angel called Mesfido whom she loves dearly. They spend much of their time together. Since meeting Mesfido, Jaina’s search for the truth of her past has taken a backseat.
As Mesfido and Jaina were on their way to find Chronos, their new teacher in the Dome, the pair entered a room filled with a hallucinogenic. Mesfido was virtually unaffected, but Jaina on the other hand was thrown into a fake world. The fake world did however prove extremely useful. There, the Phoenix Kaala, Jaina’s missing halve, was able to contact her without the consequences that would have transpired had she tried to find Jaina in the real world. Kaala explained to Jaina the truth of her existence and eventually, fused with Jaina. Jaina also learnt of the existence of the Phoenix Core, a giant tree unique to each phoenix that fuels their power. After having regenerated the tree Jaina was also able to fuse with it.
