We finally got us some answers about Richard. We not only know that he hasn't aged in about 20 years- now we know it's been as much as forty.
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
I was estatic to see Richard Alpert back. Why? I heard that ever since the actor signed a contract with the TV show Cane, he wasn't allowed to be on LOST (which would explain his absence from the series for a little while). Well since Cane got cancelled, I suppose he's free to return.

I still believe that the very original inhabitants of the island (meaning Richard Alpert and all the people he lead) are the smoke monster (one and the same), and they can blurt out images of people in one's past. If this is true, then it seems that the smoke monster passes judgement on people. Richard Alpert passed judgement on a young Jon Locke, and the smoke monster itself passed judgement on the Eko.

As for the whole scene inside the cabin-

Anyone else think it was surprising when we saw Christian Shepherd? I hadn't known he was going to be in this episode, so I was all... waitWHAT.
Spoiler (Highlight to read):
Ah, so that was Christian Shepherd holding Aaron in the previous episode (I didn't get a clear view of who it was in the night time). When she said "dad?" I thought she meant another man (as in, a man that grew up with her, and loved her mother). It was hard for Claire to accept Christian as her biological father, so I didn't think she'd call him by that name.

Also, I have a theory about Desmond-

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
I think he's pretty much as good as dead at this point. He said in this episode, "I am never setting foot on that island again as long as I live" or something to that effect.

To me that seemed like foreshadowing, to the "he's as good as gone" end. :<

Spoiler (Highlight to read):
That and that time-skipping tumor he has. If (what I'm guessing) helping Micheal kill the other crew members doesn't get him killed, the tumor will.
