You should try to pick up on Viz's manga. There's some edits and past 4kids dub names are used in it but the translated is spot on and there is really hardly any edits.
Either that or go an even better way and read scanlations or download subs of the anime (although you should probably buy the DVD's just in support of One Piece and then watch the subs of the episodes that haven't been released yet).
