Final Fantasy VI, like Chrono Trigger and 90% of RPGs, suffers from ending stalling. After the World of Ruin, the developers could have let you go right to Kefka's Tower, but they stalled it in an extremely lazy way. All you do is refind all your characters, level them up, and level up the magicite. It's boring, highly tedious, and you really don't care about Kefka anymore by the time you finally have a chance at fightingh him.
I love FFVI and Chrono Trigger for their first halves, but I don't think they deserve the praise they get for having such terrible pacing. I'd much rather play Final Fantasy IV or Super Mario RPG for this reason alone.
BTW, I like Kefka, but he isn't as interesting as people make him out to be. Kefka is more or less The Joker if he were a coward. Personally, I find The Joker to be far more interesting.
