To get Terra in World of Ruin, fight the fat green guy, leave the village, then return and talk to Terra again. After defeating the green guy a second time, Terra joins the party.
And VI is, hands down, the best Final Fantasy game. Yes, even better than your beloved VII.

I've never played FFVII. FFVI appealed to me because the graphics were actually good to look at... FFVII loses its initial appeal for me because the graphics are so incredibly blocky. But initial appeal doesn't tell us anything...
Anyway, thanks for the help everyone. I was sort of angry when I found out that there isn't much plot after you get to WoR, except finding the characters and going to fight Kefka. Though I was loving leveling my characters up before I went to the big rock in the sky and the battle system too.
