Religion ties very closely to philisophical views on the meaning of life.
The more you think about why we're here the more you realize life is pointless.
Then we put religion in and it gives life a nice kick.

See, if someone has religion it can very easily alter their meaning of life. (I just used Christianity because that's what I am.)
I don't really bother thinking about the point of life, it's more fun just to live life and be happy.
