This game is a direct sequel to Twilight Princess and occurs a year later. Link has joined "The Group" and they have heard reports of people, including Princess Zelda, disappearing, and monster sightings around Lake Hylia. Link goes there and he spots Midna (in her Twilli form). She waks past him and into the Lanayru's Cave wordlessly and Link follows. He enters the cave and sees Midna disappear into the spring. Link looks to see where Midna has gone and he falls in.
Instead of landing in the water Link falls from the sky and lands in the middle of a jungle while his sword fall into a nearby village. He is knocked out and is awakened by a roar he sees a terrible grey monster in the jungle and he begin to flee. He runs through the forest in a state of panic. He hears a humming noise. He sees a hummingbird hovering above him and it asks "Are you OK?" He is obviously startled and nearly. The hummingbird introduces as Iris a kind, timid Hummingbird, from the nearby village of Orwell. She explains that he is now in Avalon where the rules of reality are thin and talking Beasts and fairies are the native inhabitants.
"People like you show up all the time. They come from different worlds becuase they claim to see something they want and then they find themself in this world." explains Iris. She also asks for his help helping a human (Animals can't recognize the different human races) girl who is injured and captured by Boars. Iris and LInk set off to Orwell village.

This is the setup for the game. It revolves around animal transformations (which is never forced on you and are more necessary for the gameplay). Wolf Link as well as an eagle and a seal transformation are the three animals that Link may transform into with special transformation outfit. Zelda and Iris are key players in the games plot and eventually Link will be reunited with Midna.
