I don't think that fairies are a necessity . They were helpful in oot and mm but the pirate's charm did prove that there were other methods of getting help, and in some cases it proved more useful even (like when in battle...).
But I do hope that they have fairies in there- more than just a fairy fountain. I really like fairies ^_^...but i'm biased lol
