Perhaps Link can see them but you, the player, can not.
Now if Link didn't realise only he can see them, and took off all his other clothes it could be somewhat amusing...

Tetra is referring to the hero's clothing, I think she says it in the first quest.
Also, Link cannot see them, even his Grandma refers to this "what's wrong Link, can't you see them?".
The player also doesn't see them...UNTIL he beats the game, in the final ending sequences after you leave Hyrule and beat the game, Link is wearing his clothing
