He halves the Magic Power you use, not your actual Magic Power. :3
I assume you are giving the example to everyone and not to me at all, because I was only confused when I played the game the first two times back then, just days after its release. That is the correct meaning if you go by numbers.

I never really kept track of how much the magic meter went down for using a spell before and after the magic bat effect. The only time it went empty is when I used the Blue Cane in a Death Mountain Cave. I believe there were only spikes to walk on, with a Piece of Heart at the end. It's a pretty cool way to get one.

Also, I know you can use two items at one time, like throwing the boomerang then using the hookshot before it comes back to you, but I don't remember if two magical items can be used that way as well. Maybe the Blue Cane and then a magic spell.
