Here's the problem with that: Metroid does indeed have a lot of story, but very little of it is actually presented in the game itself. The last few Metroid games have pushed this forward a little bit (MP3, Fusion, Zero Mission to an extent), but other than the beginning and the end, it would be mostly Samus walking around by herself killing aliens. While I would be all for that (see XKCD's "River Tam Beats Up Everyone"), most people wouldn't like it as a movie. To make a movie of any of the games, they would have to
very carefully intersperse backstory and plot throughout the move. Too much at either end of the movie would bring it down to a very low level.
