Re: Hypocrits, damn hypocrits.
I can see where you're coming from, and in general, I agree. But I have to bring up that maybe Tibet needs to stick up for themselves. Here's my personal analogy:
Big bully (aka China) picks on little kid everyone likes (Tibet), but obviously no likes him enough to help immediately. So, little kid learns how to stick up for himself. Not only does he learn how to defend himself, but he teaches others how to stick up for themselves too, and has become independent.
However, when big bully brings a gun to school, then it's time for someone (aka the USA) to throw a few linebackers on the bully and break his arms.
I would really like to see Tibet fight for itself and force communist China to stop the violence, but since Tibet has no army, really, and China is starting to use violence to keep Tibet in line, it's time for countries to back up Tibet for real, not by boycotting the Olympics, but by providing political and military backup.
Here's my personal rant: Boycotting the Olympics has done NOTHING to help Tibet. Sure, China now knows that the world hates them, but that just fosters dislike and does nothing to solve the problem. I also seem to recall Germany hosting the Olympics during WWII, and no one protested then. We actually proved that no race was any more superior or inferior, that anyone is capable of gold medals. I think we should set an exmaple for China and show them how to treat other countries by letting them host the Olympics and build better relationships with other countries without using military force.
Of course, this would all take place in my little happy world that will never happen.
