If you have to create a creature, isn't choosing one that already exists cheating?
As for a planet, I'd choose either Mercury, Venus, or Mars.
The others are gas giants that don't have a solid surface, so that rules out most potential aliens right there.
Of course, you could have aliens that float in the atmosphere of a gas giant, too.
Really, you should just choose a planet, research what it's like, and figure out how an alien could live there. Then you should create your alien.
