Captain Aegis Spade

Name- Captain Aegis Spade

Age- Thirtyfour

Race- Human

Sex- Male

Appearance- As a "pirate" (usage of that term is debatable, see below) by nature, Aegis fits the part of a sea-faring explorer and thrill-seeker extraordinaire quite well. He stands at six foot, three inches, weighing in at a solid 170 pounds, mostly muscle. Aegis keeps his hair relatively short, but it still retains a good amount of what some would call scruffiness. His natural and constant hair color is a light brown. Aegis' eyes are a dark emerald green, and framed by a pair of ancient square-framed glasses. Captain Spade's facial hair normally gets the best of him, giving him an "Indiana Jones" style scruff at all times. A few nicks and scars are scattered across his body, some of the ones on his arms, torso and legs quite large. All of these are from the various perils any swashbuckler comes across. Overall, Aegis is quite a good looking man, and he has no shame in saying so. Many a woman, both wench and royalty have fallen for him based on appearences alone, and his rougeish charm normally finishes the job.

Unlike most captains, Aegis doesn't wear an extravagent hat, however, it's almost an unwritten law that he wears some sort of headgear. Thus, an off-red tricorner hat, with a metal skull and crossbones adorned to the front is occasionally seen resting atop his head. His typical clothing consists of a light, black cloth undershirt, adorned with several cuts, holes and pockets for holding bits and pieces of whatsits. Over this, he wears a long red duster-style jacket. Made of a heavy cloth, and dyed an extremely pure red...atleast it looked that way when he first wore it. Its slightly tattered hem's longest point is a little past his knees in the back. The jacket can be fastened with an array of large buckles of various sizes, but Aegis almost always wears it open. A large black belt holds a pair of loose fitting black pants, with several straps and buckles hanging from the waist. Finally, a pair of heavy, well worn leather boots, these also featuring several large buckles on them as well.

From each side of his belt hang two holsters, each holding an Ebony revolver. His left hip is also the usual home for his saber, when its not being used for Dio-Knows-What. His flask and pipe are normally kept in the confines of the deep pockets sewn into his jacket, as well as several other odds and ends one acquires over the years.

Hair- Aegis keeps his hair relatively short, but it still retains a good amount of what some would call scruffiness. His natural and constant hair color is a light brown.

Eyes- Aegis' eyes are a dark emerald green, and framed by a pair of ancient square-framed glasses.

Weight- a solid 170 pounds, mostly muscle.

Height- six foot, three inches

Weapons-

:: A fairly standard Avelian Officer's saber. Crafted from a fairly standard ironish substance, and finished with a fairly standard, and fairly decorated silver hilt.

:: Two Zwei Mekanism Armee Ebenholz, "Ebony" Revolvers (Double Action Army, Ebony Edition). These top of the line Reman officer handguns were "acquired" (see: stolen) by Aegis before they were even packaged and shipped off to the Reman armories. Accurate, reliable and powerful, these six shooting beauties pack a .44 punch with each trigger pull. Outfitted with a set of speed loaders, weighted for perfect balance, use a double action firing mechanism and personally fine-tuned for Aegis' own use, many a Reman Marine has met his end to these firearms.

:: A simple metal flask. This never leaves either Aegis' left hand, or the inside pocket of his jacket. Though small in size, it has a seemingly endless capacity for an unknown form of liquor. Aegis has never revealed its contents, or capacity to anyone.

Skills and "magic-

Unrivaled drinking ability- Aegis seemingly exists in a never ending state of "tippyness", as his flask is a never-ending supply of good-times. Throughout any amount of intoxication, Aegis never truly loses his abilities. Sure, his speech might slur and he may stumble a bit, but nothing he can't handle. Also, as he's quite an actor, it's possible some of these effects could be entirely fake. No one's ever sure. Occasionally, he isn't either!

Marksmanship, Swashbuckling and a general knack for adventure - Spade has a life-long history with the seas. Living around the Avelian Gulf as a "pirate" also comes with some perks; you get good at not dying quick. Thanks to this, Aegis has learned to use blades as if they were his own hands, picking off a target with his pistol is just like throwing a punch and ingenuity and a "making-it-up-as-he-goes" mentality are a way of life. Besides being a very suitable warrior, Aegis is also very resourceful. He knows he's no mountain-of-a-man and knows damn well not to pick a fight he can't win...unless he can cheat.

Kukulu, the Sea God of Avelion- The waters of the Avelian Gulf are said to be dominated by Kukulu, the “Unforgiving, All-Powerful, All-Knowing, All-Seeing, All-*insert present tense be verb here* God of the Oceans”. Large enough to dwarf any ship to ever sail the seas, strong enough to stand up to any weapon, horrifying enough to make any man turn and run in an instant, Kukulu is the true ruler of the seas. It’s said that Aegis and Kukulu have a pact together, an unspoken and unholy agreement, even possibly called a life-debt to some regard. Captain Spade has never spoken himself on this subject, but there’s reason enough to believe that if the situation ever occurs, the mighty Kukulu owes him a favor. Who wouldn’t want a thousand foot long squid god on their side, anyway? Captain Aegis Spade surely wouldn’t have any objections to such a power.

Strengths-

Bring a sword to a gun fight- Aegis is one of the best swordsmen to ever set sail, and definitely good enough to hold his own against even the most well trained blade masters. His cutlass is his preferred weapon, followed closely by his own fists. Though he is well suited to using firearms, he makes it a point to only use them when absolutely necessary.

A pirate’s life for me- A pirate does what a pirate has to, and Captain Spade is no exception. Though an honorable man, he knows what he has to do to get what he wants. He is an extremely unorthodox and resourceful man when it comes to fighting, learning and even basic conversations. He’s a sneak and a liar sometimes, and as pure as a baby the next…well, a slightly drunk and womanizing baby, anyway. He’s not above stealing, lying or cheating to get the job done.

Weaknesses-

It’s like, 1770 out there, Jeeze!- Aegis’ technology is obviously nowhere near what anyone would call advanced. An average saber versus a magical, unbreakable sword? Good luck. A six shooter put up against a fully-automatic-rocket-launcher? Not a chance. A simple cloth jacket taking as many hits as blessed armor? Not happening.

Gals and booze- He’s a sucker for both, pretty self explanatory.

Personality- Aegis is not a ruthless man, nor is he corrupt, excessively violent or greedy. He constantly is on the hunt for treasure and adventure, not to find power and destruction. He lives a (mostly) laid-back lifestyle, living day by day, going where his heart tells him. Though many a time, these paths end up involving drinking, women or a combination of both, he is still what you could call a “good man”. He will never turn his anger on an innocent, nor does he believe in senseless killing. However, if pushed, he is a very capable combatant, as much as he’d rather not have to.
The crew of the Wind’s Dance II, and any man serving under Captain Aegis, are strict followers of a code of conduct written by Aegis himself.

The Professional Codes of Conduct for the Crew of Captain Spade
1. Never, ever compromise the well-being of any amount of alcohol, unless it will lead to the location, and security of even more alcohol.
2. Any sort of hint, map, or probable cause to the location or means of accusation of object or person of high value is to be given to Captain Spade before anyone else.
3. Accept any form of surrender. However, all prisoners are to be handed off to whatever party offers the highest price. No exceptions.
4. No bears are to be allowed on board the ship. Punishable by death.
5. When attacked by Royal forces, make every effort to escape with as much cargo as possible. If forced to fight, fight only until a suitable escape can be made. (If forced to pick between targets of different allegiances, choose which ever one is winning at the time. If it is undecidable, select the enemy of the wealthier party.)
6. Rule 2 can be broken if it leads to the company of a woman, however, the information must not be given to said woman, unless the woman promises at least two day's worth of alcohol.
7. No matter what happens, always knock before entering the Captain's quarters.
8. The Daughter of the Captain is to be given complete run of any vessel, building or establishment currently under control of Captain Spade's Crew. However, she cannot ingest any alcohol.
9. Any women who are not members of Captain Spade's Crew are not to be allowed on board without a thorough check for weapons, possible stolen materials and alcohol.
10. For El Dio's sake, no fire is permitted in the cargo hold.
Note: Any activities not listed above is considered completely legal.

Biography and Backstory- Aegis Spade was born at sea, to a family of explorers and thrill-seekers. He was raised by both his family and their crew aboard their vessel, The Wind’s Dance. He learned from a very young age to take care of himself, and how to survive at sea. A wooden sword was almost always in his grip as he’d make his “rounds” on the ship doing various “missions” for his mother and father. These mostly were simple chores and such, but it kept him busy, kept him out of the way and taught him how to be responsible.

By the age of seventeen, Aegis was a full-fledged sailor, working alongside his father as a commander on The Wind’s Dance. By now he had acquired his own sword and had learned the things all pirates do. He had began drinking, leading raids, acting undercover and was well on his way to becoming a captain himself. As time went on, the tension between the two largest military powers, the Avelian Empire and the Seran Reich had reached the breaking point. War had broken out over a land dispute, and combat had taken to the seas in full force. Adventurers and free sailors were stuck in between two warring super powers, and many pirate crews were taken down in the first months of the war. In order to keep the Spade family safe, Aegis’ father gave his son command of his first vessel at the age of twenty-two. Aegis, ecstatic over his new command, christened the ship The Wind’s Dance II. He set out with his father’s blessing to become his own man. And so he did.

He became infamous for his quick attacks on both Reman and Avelian military bases. His name was quickly added to the Top Ten Most Wanted List of both factions, and a heavy price was put on his head. However, the people loved him. He was seen as a hero to many small colonies who were trying to stay out of the combat. Captain Spade was well known for his “steal from the high, give to the low” style. The only targets he’d steal from were marked military ships, and a very large chunk of his profits would be sent to the various smaller colonies’ people. Oh, sure, he wasn’t fully selfless. He was able to create a nice life for himself, but his intentions were enough to gain approval of the people, and hatred from his enemies.

Then, almost instantly, he fell off the map. Him and his crew set out on a wild goose chase to find “A bloodeh great way tah’ end this not’sense fightin!’” He had stumbled upon the origin of the God of the Seas himself, Kukulu. Unable to ignore the possibilities, he set out to find the treasure of a lifetime. Though he has never been seen again Avelian waters, it is said that he made a deal with the great Kukulu. Captain Aegis Spade, notorious savior of the poor, the lover of countless ladies, and cause of many a bar fight, had found a way to threaten the Great Kukulu himself! They say he struck a deal with the Sea God, one that ended in mutual gain, and Aegis was swept away into the unknown to fulfill his end of the deal.
