Well, sorta, Oedipus does beat the sphinx, but I don't believe he does so in any particular play, it's just an act attributed to him.
However, he does stab his eyes out in Oedipus Rex, because he accidentally slew his father and married his mother.

Is not the riddle mentioned in one of the plays - the reason that the defeat of the Sphinx is significant is that that is the reason why the Thebans made him king - when they thought that he was a Corinthian.
