Zalin
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My first BA character, I hope he's good.
Name: Zalin (ZAH-lin)
Age: Exact age unknown, but likely hundreds, if not thousands, of years old
Race: Undead Hylian
Sex: Male
Hair: Wispy strands of long gray hair
Eyes: Completely red
Weight: 105 lbs
Height: 5’6”
Weapon: Reclamation, a perversion of the Master Sword that has lost most of its power. It is made of a black steel-like metal. As it is now, it is only slightly sharper and a little more durable than a typical longsword. It is nowhere near as powerful as the true Master Sword, though it was forged by Zalin's master to be its equal and opposite.
Strengths: Quite strong and skilled with most weapons. His bones are stronger than a typical human skeleton, as they have been enhanced with dark magic. He has memories of ages long past embedded in his psyche, but he cannot call them up at will. He has a strong resistance to evil magic and he is immune to just about every poison and disease out there (being quite literally a dead man walking does have its benefits).
Weaknesses: Anything that hurts undead. He is particularly vulnerable to light magic, and his combat style has a tendency to leave him unprotected. He is prone to having psychotic episodes where some of his memories come rushing back to him, and he usually can’t recall them afterwards.
Skills/Magic: Zalin has recently regained some of his lost powers; with time, he will return to the pinnacle of his power.
He can see perfectly in the dark, colors and everything.
Zalin’s straight-up swordfighting ability is almost unmatched. He fights with a fluidity and grace unusual for an undead, which may throw his opponents for a short time. He makes good use of feints and dodges, but a well-trained opponent will see past his seemingly perfect sword strikes and will find that he often leaves a lot of openings.
Dark Fire: Zalin channels dark magic through his sword to produce a variety of attacks. He cannot use these abilities if he is not holding his sword. He can do the following Dark Fire abilities:
-Fireball- a ball of dark fire erupts from the end of his sword and flies towards his enemy
-Stream- Zalin fires a sustained stream of black fire from his sword. He can hold it for a couple seconds, and it requires him to concentrate a little. He learned these techniques while fighting Synyx.
Appearance: Although not that tall and hunched far over, Zalin appears larger than he is. He is quite the imposing figure: his eyes glow pure red, and dark energy can be seen radiating from his bones. The little skin that remains on him hangs tattered from his skeleton and is blown about in the wind. What used to be a head of long blond hair is now wispy and unkempt, reaching down past his shoulders. He wears a tattered black tunic with a long cloth hat, a mockery of the true Hero’s garb. A red triangle is stitched into the right sleeve of his tunic. In addition to the tunic, he wears a long black cloak trimmed with silver. He also wears a thin silver chain around his neck, but nothing is attached to it.
Personality: Zalin is a dark, psychotic individual. His unwilling resurrection drove him mad with bloodlust, and for a time he sought to destroy as much as he could. He now spends his days searching for the amulet that was taken from him, seeking for more power as he goes. He is merciless in battle, fighting with a ferocity that few can match. Those who fight him and survive rarely do so in one piece. Zalin takes no prisoners; those who beg for his mercy find none in his corrupted soul.
That being said, he feels as though there is something more, something greater for him to fight for. Occasionally, he feels remorse for those he has killed, and for some reason, he feels a sense of pride for the one who defeated him, that person in gold. He cannot explain this, and in his normal mood he wishes these feelings would all go away. Though he lusts for power, he lusts equally for purpose.
Biography: Zalin was once a great hero, but those days are long gone. Zalin can remember only bits and pieces of his past, and not enough to make out who he was or what he did. His earliest clear memory is that of his resurrection, of being torn from somewhere and being put into this wretched, withered body. Waves of pain wracked his body, his mind, his very soul as he was ripped from a peaceful afterlife back into the mortal world. He was bound to his body by the Amulet of Corruption, an artifact of great power that housed an evil magic that was said to rival that of the gods. The Amulet destroyed his mind, and he felt only a longing to destroy everything but his new master, the sorcerer that resurrected him.
As Zalin grew accustomed to his new existence, the sorcerer brought him ancient weapons of the forces of good. Zalin knew instinctively how to use these weapons the moment he picked them up, and the Amulet of Corruption assured their divine power would not hurt him. Zalin’s master told him that soon he would get to fight, to destroy the living. Zalin trained day and night in order to please his master. Nearly a month had passed when he was finally allowed into the world. It was a new sensation to Zalin, being in the world of the living; until now, he had been in the dark depths of some mighty fortress deep beneath the ground. Zalin could feel the wind blowing, smell the grass, gaze into the night sky…and he hated it all. He spotted a flying creature up in the air and swung his sword at it. A mass of black fire erupted from the end of his sword and streaked towards the hated beast. Its body was wreathed in dark flame and it dissolved in a matter of seconds, squawking loudly as it died. His master was pleased, as he was himself.
Time passed, and Zalin wreaked havoc upon the land. He destroyed caravans, attacked travelers, and caused as much mayhem as he could muster. The more he killed, the more he was satisfied. The Amulet of Corruption proved useful to his efforts; he discovered he had a skill with magic, and the Amulet gave him exactly the power he wanted. He took pleasure in ambushing travelers with a sword that created duplicates of himself, then throwing a stream of black fire at their horrified faces.
One day, his master approached him. He told Zalin that there was someone that was trying to stop him, someone who wanted to destroy him. Zalin was outraged and wanted to kill this person, but he was cautious: his master told him that this person had defeated his guardians and had great power. Zalin decided to bide his time. He entered the nation’s capital city, abandoned after his initial assault, and made his home in the castle. He decided to resume his training in preparation for this individual; somehow, he knew he would be found, and he knew he would be in for the fight of his life.
Finally, a day came when he sensed a great presence of light coming towards him. He steeled himself for the coming battle, and was shocked to see a young man, barely into his late teens, enter the castle hall. This young man wore a suit of gold and ivory armor and wielded a greatsword that glowed pearly white. Zalin approached the boy and drew his sword, but some tingling in the back of his head kept him from striking him down then and there. He quickly shook it off, however, and rushed in for the attack. To his surprise, the young swordsman blocked and countered his every attack. The boy even managed to strike him several times. Angered at the audacity, and more so of the skill, of this young man, Zalin continued to fight with every weapon at his disposal, but the boy was unlike any opponent he had ever faced. Truly, this warrior had been blessed by the gods. Desperate, Zalin unleashed the full power of the Amulet of Corruption. Still, the boy had an answer to all of Zalin’s attacks, and this was no different. The boy used a weapon of pure light to shoot the Amulet from Zalin’s neck. Defeated, he fell to the ground and reality faded away.
Sometime later, Zalin awoke. He had no idea how much time had passed, and upon surveying his surroundings, he knew not where he was. He examined his neck and found the Amulet was missing. Zalin could not believe that he was alive; moreover, he could not believe he was defeated. Dazed, he set out in search of the Amulet and his master, but he did not know what lie ahead of him…
