Instead of link living in the future, he lives in the traditional hyrule. He attemps to destroy a sorceror (this would be the first boss of the game), who has taken over hyrule. However, right before link lands the killing blow the sorceror utters a spell that sends link 4000 years into the future, to the world descibed in this thread. In the future, the sorceror has control over the land (hes kept himself alive using magic), and link must defeat him to return to his own time.

Future Zelda...Why not? It worked for Final Fantasy, it could work for Zelda.
Then again, it would be weird imagining Hyrule in the distant future...I'm torn.
