Almost lazily, the man by the fishing hole glanced through the water. For roughly three hours now, he had been searching for his evening meal, but so far none of the salmon he had been told about had appeared. In a sense of forgetfulness, he glanced at his morpher, as if it were perfectly fixed, and the time would suddenly be displayed. He sighed, annoyed with himself, and glanced at the sun’s location in the sky. It was a little after noon. He had to go, there were probably plenty of fish where the water was fresher upstream. He checked his gear to make sure he hadn’t forgotten anything, and proceeded down the river, heading due south.
“Scizor,” he muttered into the earpiece on the side of his head. “You there?”
“Still kicking, D,” the fierce voice replied. “What is it?”
He shook his head. “Nothing really,” he answered. “I just wanted to be sure you were still there. Something stupid like that.” He lowered his head, almost irritated at himself for his brief moment of weakness. “Any maps showing up?”
“None, D. As of right now, I’ve mapped the terrain we’ve traveled on this world, but I still don’t have a clear picture of where we might be. If we find a map in the next town, maybe I can download it through picture and analyze it in more detail.” Its ranger partner nodded. His bright red eyes weren’t as impressive in the light, but they scanned the nearby water for any signs of movement inside. He felt warm in his uniform, but didn’t dare consider taking it off, lest he lose a piece. “Wait, D!” The ranger lifted his head. “I’m picking something up. Someone about a mile away, giving off a huge energy signal! Due east!” The ranger, in response, glanced east, just in time to see what appeared to be a giant explosion of pink flashes. “What is it?”
He shrugged. “Haven’t got a clue. But it might be a good idea to check it out.” He narrowed his vision, and zoomed in on a town in the far-off distance, in the exact area the pink was coming from. “Let’s go!” Thankfully, the ranger did not have to cross the river, and boldly set off in a run towards the town. The town itself, he read a sign in the distance that read Stupid Town, which the ranger took to mean the town’s name. Briefly, the ranger wondered where the logic was in naming a town that, but ignored it as he approached.
He arrived minutes later, as the town was roughly a mile away from the river, and even someone like him took time to travel that distance. In his civilian form, he was little more then a highly-trained human. So, when he found himself in the rustic, oddly clichéd, little town, he could not help but feel a sense of confusion as to where the origin of the flashes had come from. He glanced around, but there seemed to be no one there. “Scizor, scan for life,” he ordered. He couldn’t see anything moving.
“Got something in the center of town,” was its reply. “Two figures. And I think there might be a Pokeball.”
The ranger looked up from the ground, it seemed covered in all sorts of tracks showing the way to the center of the little town. “A Pokeball?” he asked incredulously. “I’ve got a bad feeling about that.” He took off for the center of the town. Sure enough, when he arrived there, he found the source of the trouble: a Rocket, he wasn’t sure who, and didn’t really care, and a gentleman in a very elaborate and flamboyant attire. “The hell’s going on here?” He stopped a few dozen feet away from them. “Hey! What’re you guys doing?” They heard him, he shouted loud enough, so they turned causally in his direction. The ranger shuddered, then struck a defensive stance. “I’ll say it again! Who are you?”
