Weapons, Magic and Offensive Abilities
Trandafir de Sīnge ( Blood Rose ) [image]
Description

Valdaria's weapon is basically a living sword; it has been tempered through alchemy and has been infused with dark magic by the scientists of Immortal Eye. It consists of a blade which acts as a central "stem" with independent serrations along both sides of it, parallel to the cross-guard and curved towards the tip of the weapon, which is adorned with a single triangular serration pointing upwards. The blade itself is divided into linked sections, each section sporting its own serration which is alternatingly either to the left or the right. The weapon also has a unique feature that allows it to "break" and be able to greatly extend its length, the individual sections seperating and linked together with a cable made of stretchable links which is hidden from view when the weapon is rigid. This gives it the ability to be used as both a sword and a retractable whip, giving it both short and long-range fighting capabilities. The hilt of the sword consists of a leather grip about ten inches in length, with a spiked pommel and a cross-guard about five inches long. The length of the unstreched blade is about 24 inches, but it can stretch up to an impressive length of up to 14 feet when used as a whip.

Mechanism

As previously stated, the sections of the blade are linked together with a cable made of stretchable links. Within this cable runs a steel wire which is gathered as a coil within the hilt when the the blade is unstretched, and held taught by a coil spring. The weapon is usually rigid and solid when drawn, but a specific flick of the wrist however causes the blade to extend to a certain minimum distance and triggers an internal mechanism that prevents it from retracted beyond that point by the steel wire. Once in this flaccid state, the blade is free to extend to its full length and works like a retractable whip, but it can only retract to the minimum distance. Another specific flick of the wrist is enough to disengage the mechanism and retract the blade completely from any distance, returning the weapon to its rigid state.

Colour scheme

The main blade of the weapon is a dull crimson in colour, while the serrations are a deep sangria, the colour of blood. The hilt is a dark maroon in colour and its sides are shaped like two thorny rose leaves. The "leaves" are outlined in bright red, and there is a large glowing ruby embedded in the center of the hilt. The grip of the weapon is a matt black in colour

Blood Powers
Voracious Eater

Valdaria's weapon is a living entity with its own artificial soul, which is vampiric in nature and resides within the gem embedded in its hilt. The weapon thus requires constant nourishment which is received in the form of the blood of its victims. This is absorbed by the serrations when they cut into flesh, every one of them acting like an individual fang. As the weapon feeds, it stores up blood energy in the gem which can then be released in the form of increasingly potent special attacks. The more blood energy stored, the stronger the attacks it can release. Therefore the longer a battle continues and the more wounds the opponent suffers, the more formidable the weapon becomes.

Razors of Pleasure

When enough blood energy has been collected by the weapon, the blade can break apart into the individual sections which can move out of their own accord. They have the ability to fly as a swarm and harass the opponent, like a cloud of vampiric razors. The results of this attack are scratches over any exposed skin, as well as damage to clothing. The blade sections can absorb the victim's blood when they break the skin, which they later return to the weapon after the end of the attack. Should any of the blade sections be somehow caught by the opponent, they would be wrenched back towards the weapon at the end of the attack.

Crimson Mist

Usage of this ability allows Valdaria to vastly increase her speed, strength and stamina, giving her an edge over her opponent in the battle. A red mist is exuded from the weapon and surrounds Valdaria like a veil, while her eyes glow a brilliant red like the gem embedded in the hilt of her sword. There is a constant drain on the weapon's blood energy while this skill is in use, the degree of enhancement depending on the rate at which the energy is used up. The stronger Valdaria becomes the faster the weapon is drained of stored blood energy.

Armour of Decadence [image1] [image2]

This skill allows Valdaria to summon an armour set over her right arm and requires quite a large amount of blood energy to use. The armour consists of a clawed gauntlet, a vambrace, a couter, and a large pauldron. The colour motif is the same for all the pieces, a dull crimson colour for the main part and a dark maroon trim along the edges. They are made from the same alchemic alloy as her weapon, making it extremely durable to both magical and physical attacks. It has the ability to completely dispel weak magical attacks it is used to defend against. There is a relatively large disk attached to the side of the pauldron and tilted slightly so that it's at a tangent to her shoulder. The center part of the disk is a dull crimson in colour and sports a maroon insignia in the shape of a rose. The rim of the disc is a dark maroon, with small petal-shaped razors lining the circumference. The gauntlet is particularly unique -- in the palm of it there is embedded a large round ruby, much like the one in the hilt of her sword. Blood drawn from the claws of the gauntlet directly feeds this ruby, even though it can be infused with available blood energy from the weapon at any time. The energy can be released as a stream of magical "lightning" which lashes out at the opponent and consumes blood energy during the period of time it is active. The strength of the attack depends on the rate of blood energy usage, so the greater the strength of the attack the larger the energy drain.

Soul Domination

This attack requires the most amount of blood energy to use than all of her other abilities, but requires that the Armour of Decadence ability is already in use. The razors lining the edge of the disk attached to her pauldron break away with a thread of blood linking them to their source, and proceed to impale their opponent in key locations of their body. As long as the razors remain in place, Valdaria can control their body like one would manipulate a puppet. This ability is not completely potent, as one with a strong willpower can resist her influence. The blood energy drain of this attack is very large and cannot be maintained for very long.

Daywalker

The blood energy of her weapon can be used to reduce the effects of the sun on her, thus allowing her to travel easier through daylight if need be. The drain is not that much so even with a small blood reserve she can gain this immunity for a considerable period of time.

Strengths

As would be expected of a vampire she is vastly faster and stronger than a human, her reflexes and senses much more potent. Enhanced healing abilities mean that she can shrug off most minor injuries, and more serious ones can be healed relatively quickly. Her weapon is incredibly versatile and allows her mastery over both medium-range and melee combat, making it very difficult for an opponent to hold an advantage over her. She has a very strong affinity to darkness and shadows, giving her the ability to seamlessly meld within them and go undetected.

Weaknesses

She has a natural aversion towards bright light and tries to avoid it at all costs, although she will not hesitate to travel in daylight if she is forced to. Relics commonly associated with killing vampires will hurt her, such as silver, crucifixes, stakes and holy water. Her fighting style and the nature of her weapon mean that she has to keep her opponent attacking constantly, so that her sword can continue feeding on blood. If her opponent were to assume a strictly defensive strategy, she would be very hard-pressed to defeat them.

Appearance

Valdaria's appearance could best be described as "gothic". Her features are sharp and imposing, with a sharp nose and high cheekbones. Her face is ashen and pale, her lips a bruised purple in colour., and her eyelids dyed black. Her long black hair is mostly combed back where it falls down to her waist, a few strands left to frame the sides of her face. Her upper lip is usually curled up in distaste, disgust and indifference at everyone around her.

Moving downwards, she wears a spiked leather choker around her neck, about halfway down. Her upper body is clothed in a black corset top which is tight around her chest, giving her a nice cleavage. She wears a pair of arm warmers that go from the base of her fingers all the way up to just below her shoulders, and is coloured in alternating stripes of purple and fuchsia. Her right arm is also adorned with a black leather vambrace fastened with leather straps and metallic buckles, which only goes up to her mid-forearm, as well as a black fingerless glove. This is so as to offer protection to her sword arm. Her nails are dyed black.

Her lower body is dressed in a frilly black cobweb skirt that goes down to about alightly past her mid-thighs, not very revealing. The skirt is held up by a black leather belt, with a strap attached to the right side of it to hold her weapon securely. Beneath that she wears a pair of tights which have the same colour scheme as her left arm warmer; namely alternating stripes of purple and fuchsia. Her feet are adorned with shin-high black leather boots, fastened firmly with both laces and an assortment of leather straps and metal buckles. The boots have a round-tip platform sole about two inches high, and a a wide heel that reaches a height of about four inches, thus showing off her legs but still comfortable to travel in.

Personality

There was once a time when she could have been called pure evil -- malicious and thriving on the pain and suffering of others. One man changed all that however, and though they have long since parted ways he still holds a special place in her thawed heart. In many regards she is still similar to her old self. She can be sadistic and ruthless at times, but only when pushed past her breaking point of resentment towards an individual. In general she can be considered antisocial, not really bothering with people unless something directly affects her. She is also quite lethargic, slugging off into inactivity and boredom. It's very difficult to get her excited about anything unless she wants something herself, at which she will go through any means to obtain it. There's also a playful part of her that's very hard to release, unless of course she wants to be playful.

She is still quite aggressive and violent if provoked enough, although it takes a lot for someone to really get to her, since she usually shrugs off most insults. She views most men with intense suspicion and distrust -- they need to prove their worth to her before she's even willing to accept their presence near her. She doesn't like to show fear and anger -- and indeed doesn't, usually appearing unfazed before threats, danger, and possible injury. In general she uses a lot of sarcasm and biting comments in her speech, and she has quite a distinct Russian accent, being originally from Romania.

Biography

She was born Catalina Simeonescu, daughter to Valeria and Bogdan Simeonescu, in a small village on the outskirts of a forest in the Carpathian mountains, sometime during the 19th century. She led a mostly uneventful life, except of course falling madly in love, as young girls often do, with a boy called Serghei. They grew very close together, at least as far as social norms allowed, and the entire village was expecting to see them married in a few years.

There had been rumours of strange demonic creatures living in caves on the foothills of the Carpathian mountains beyond the nearby forest, but most considered them scare stories told by the village elders to keep the children in check. The nightmare came true one night when Catalina was seventeen. One of the feared creatures they called "vampyre" attacked her while she was working chores on the outskirts of the forest. Brutal and deranged with bloodthirst or simply malice, her assailant attacked violently and left her in a convulsing heap with what little blood she had left.

She was discovered in that pitiful state by her shocked parents, who immediately brought their barely alive daughter home to begin caring for her. The entirety of her body was covered in cuts and bruises, but the most prominent injury was a large gash at the side of her neck, almost as if part of it had been ripped apart by the fangs of a rabid beast. Catalina did not stir from her bed for the next few days, comatose and with a high fever that would not go down. The village doctor could not discover what ailment troubled her, and nothing he did seemed to have any positive effect on her condition

Her parents had began to fear for the worst when she miraculously awoke, albeit in an extremely weak state and unable to eat anything. Whenever one would try to feed her by force, she would regurgitate whatever she ingested within minutes. Nevertheless her condition appeared stable and she was calm for the most part, except for when she was gripped by terrible convulsions and screams of agony. Her family was at a loss of what to do, and her beau was getting increasingly worried about her, so they allowed him to see her in hopes that his presence would be beneficial to her.

Leaving the two alone turned out to be a mistake. A blood-curdling scream filled the house and Catalina's parents rushed to her room to find their daughter's mouth clasped tightly over the boy's throat, her face and clothes stained with his blood. Serghei was in a panic as they tried to seperate the two of them, but Catalina's jaws were like a vice and she gave low guttural growls whenever they pulled her away. By the time they managed to wrench her away from him, he had passed out and was barely alive. Catalina snarled and hissed as she tried to reach him again but they held her back until the boy was taken away, prompting her to return to her previous lethargy.

Being religious, her parents began to believe that her daughter was possessed by demonic forces. They asked the local priest to visit and give her a blessing, but she would hiss and snarl at the very sight of a crucifix so passionately that the priest was too frightened to be in her presence. News about her began to spread through the village, and the villagers began to fear for their safety and that of their children. Serghei had survived, but he had been deprived of oxygen due to blood loss for so long that he was left with a limp in one leg and a stutter.

Catalina's parents could no longer see their daughter when they looked at her, just a body that resembled her but had the mind of a beast. The village was getting increasingly restless and her father began to fear that they would be lynched if he did not do something soon. With a heavy heart, Bogdan led his daughter outside their home and all the way to the outskirts of the forest. Catalina had allowed herself to be led along almost like a puppet, with no will of her own. When she looked up at the barrel of the gun aimed at her forehead, her eyes were empty and completely devoid of emotion.

A slobber of drool rolled down her chin from the corner of her lips, and Catalina's father hesitated at the critical moment. He couldn't pull the trigger any more than he could kill his own daughter, and the gun lowered shakily as Bogdan's eyes began to fill with tears. His heart refused to believe that his daughter was beyond salvation, he hoped that part of her was still there behind those vacant eyes, dormant yet still alive. A slap echoed through the forest as his knuckles met her cheek, and the girl fell back to the ground with a very human-sounding gasp. As her tongue licked up the blood flowing from her cut lip, she gave a threatening hiss in his direction. Catalina's father fired his weapon into the air, the loud crack scaring her and causing her to move into the forest. She gave one last look at her father, and disappeared into the trees. To everyone except Bogdan, Catalina was thought to have died at the hands of her father.

Catalina wandered through the forest alone for weeks, frightened and relying on her instncts to survive. She had been feeding off the blood of anything she could find and catch, living like a wild animal with her clothes torn and ragged. Her scent had attracted the attention of a young vampire who could not have been more than a couple of decades old. The scent had seemed incredibly familiar to him, and when his eyes fell on her he realised that she had been the one he had fed on in one of his hunting sprees. He had left her for dead after he had drunk his fill of her, and had never expected her to be turned into one of them. Nevertheless he was pleasantly surprised and introduced himself as Lucien, the leader of a small group of vampires all younger than him. He wanted her to join them. The rest of the group were not as keen to accept this newly-turned vampire into their ranks, especially one of the females who appeared to be Lucien's mate. She saw Catalina as a threat to herself and greatly disliked the interest Lucien showed in her. He managed to convince them that the new vampire would prove useful to them when she grew up.

Catalina writhed and struggled as they carried her away, biting and scratching to escape but being no match against the strength of an adult vampire. She eventually gave up and allowed them to carry her without protest, defeated and weak. They took her into a large cavernous expanse in the foothills of the Carpathian mountains which functioned as a vampire haven of sorts. Lucien led to one of their victims in the depths of the cavern, a young woman frightened and restrained. Catalina walked around her several times, not really knowing what she was expected to do. She had only ever fed off one other human up to now, but only because she had felt attracted to him. The link between hunger and feeding had not yet formed in her mind, but this situation helped to establish that. There was a satisfied smirk on Lucien's lips as the woman's screams filled the cavern.

The taste of human blood fulfilled her much more than the blood of animals she had the previous weeks, and that made her see Lucien as a father figure to her since he had provided for her. He gave her the name Valdaria and began to train her, teaching her how to hunt humans and how to defend herself. Being young and newly-turned she depended on him immensely, even going as far as falling in love with him. But to Lucien she was more like a play-thing, something to occupy himself with when there was nothing better to be doing. Much to the chagrin of his lover he even bedded Valdaria, although she did not know about Lucien's other relationship which continued behind her back.

Time passed and Valdaria became a proficient warrior, very skilled in the use of sword and whip but still ferociously loyal to Lucien. She had become attached to him at her most vulnerable in a very young age, and bonds like those are very hard to sever unless there is betrayal involved. And it so happens that Valdaria eventually discovered of Lucien's other relationship, and the feelings of betrayal enraged her to no end. She patiently bided her time, silently seething within as she waited for the opportune moment to exact her revenge.

She caught the both of them red-handed and before they could so much as react, the female was run through by Valdaria's sword and promptly decapitated. Lucien utterly enraged fought back against his presumed underling, but being unarmed he stood no chance to defeat her. She gave him a slow and painful death, which she greatly enjoyed. The rest of the vampires were more frightened of her than enraged at the death of their leader, so none dared stand in her way as she left the cavern.

Valdaria travelled on her own for several years, feeding on humans and killing indiscriminately as she saw fit. She was malicious and sadistic, only really caring for herself and with an intense distaste towards men. That changed when she met a much older vampire by the name of Maximilian Heruka. He had travelled from another realm on the back of a dragon with the ability to travel through alternate universes, on a quest to rid himself of his own inner demons. They ended up engaging in fierce combat, during which her opponent's demons manifested physically, his mind and body consumed by a presence known only as Orion. After an intense battle she succeeded in defeating the demon and temporarily freeing him from its control. In doing so she fell in love with this mysterious vampire, her heart eventually thawing after being frozen for so long. The world she lived in seemed to offer her nothing but pain and betrayal, so she decided to follow him into his realm.

In doing so she ended up in the modern age in the city of Tokyo, living in the towering headquarters of Immortal Eye, the corporation Maximilian presided over. That's where she became acquainted with technology and modern life, even rising up to take an administrative position within the company. His relationship with Valdaria did not last long as she reminded him too much of the wife he had left behind in one of the realms he had travelled in, but he still held a place in her heart seeing as he had changed her so much.

She ended up in a relationship with one of Maximilian's associates by the name of Solomon Delgado. It was more of a love-hate affair than the love she had felt with Maximilian, and after a while she got bored of it. Using her influence within the company she pulled some strings to usher along the development of her new weapon which she dubbed Trandafir de Singe. Once it was finished she decided to leave the company once more and explore this new world she was in, armed with her new weapon.
