Beck: Mongolian Chop Squad

The other day, the art style caught my attenton, then Beck proceded to chop off my limbs and widen my eyes, ears and mind, in an epic 26-episode marathon. To put things in perspective, my limit for anime marathons is at 6.

Anyone else familiar with Beck? I am now on a Beck high, so I must gush.

I just have to say, in the truest yet most cliched of ways, this show rocks.

I'm a sucker for coming-of-age tales via guitars and rock, and that's what Beck is in a nutshell. Beck rolls out the roles and personalities you've seen a million times before, yets makes them interesting and real with a 'can't-put-my-finger-on-it' style of freshness. And believable hairstyles. Okay, there is a spikey haired blond guy, but he's the show's rival douche, so its all good.

The English dub is off the charts. Rare it is when a dub studio goes the distance Funimation has with Beck. And the distance they went. I'd have a lot more praise to give, but my brain's still shocked at how good this is. Let's just say that in many of the songs featured, the english VA's voices will melt you're face off.

So yeah, to any lover of music, anime or damn good storytelling, Beck deserves to be watched.
