(ZGen) Legend of Zelda: Ravages of Time
I'll try to make this fanfic as entertaining as possible. I'm up to suggestions. I'm making his up as I go, so anything is good. It's about a war that breaks out between all of the races of Hyrule and in several areas outside of Hyrule, such as Termina and Holodrum and Subrosia and all that. It starts with Link in a foreign land resting after another day of battle. The postman then arrives in the bar where Link has decided to settle for the night. It is from Princess Zelda asking him to come back. Link jumps at the opportunity to do so. He rides back at full-speed. Link has not been in Hyrule for the seven years since his return to his past. He had been in Termina for 3 days(as we all know) and has been travelling to the lands like Holodrum and Labrynna to right the wrongs they have. Much has changed since his last visit there. The races have secluded to themselves, none of them communicate with each other unless it's necessary. The Hylians have grown an unusual hatred toward the Gerudo due to Ganondorf's heritage. The Gorons and the Zora have started arguing about a quarrel that sprouted between there people. The remaining Sheikah of Hyrule have started to mysteriously disappear, but there are rumors of them showing up in foreign lands. The Kokiri Forest has noticed a strange disease growing from the trees of the Lost Woods, and the source of it was the connection to the Zora's river within the Woods. The Kokiri then begin to suspect someone of poisoning and the story unfolds from there. It starts out with Zelda and Link and they gain more party members along the way. Hope you enjoy it.
Prologue: Hero's Welcome
Link trudged his way into town and found the Milk Bar in it. He found a stool and collapsed upon it, weary eyed.
"Stalfos just don't know when to stay down... aggh." Link complained.
"Hard night?" the barkeep asked, polishing a glass and filling it with a smooth milk with an unfamiliar label.
"Lousy." Link replied. "Five Stalfos and a Moblin." Link said as he recalled his day. He had been slashed, tackled, stabbed, and least of all bruised. He used two fairies just to keep from death, today.
"Good to see somone out there doing some good. Monsters don't usually have a bounty unless they're a real menace. All the warriors here are after bounties on Hylians' heads, not monsters. Here, have a cool one, on the house." the barkeep offered with a large grin on his face that spread from ear to ear. His moustache matched the same length.
"Thanks." said Link gulping it all at once. "I needed that." Link said with sigh. He started feeling better already. But he didn't feel at all relaxed though. The Triforce mark upon his left hand had started glowing fervently. He wondered if this had something to do with Zelda, or Gods forbid, Ganon.
"Something wrong? I can usually tell when something is wrong. It comes with the trade." the barkeep said with another incredibly large smirk.
"I'm not sure." Link said with another sigh. "I've been gone for a long time and I haven't received any news for several years." Link explained.
"Youch. Years. I wouldn't be surprised if you find your stuff on the street of... hey where you from?" the barkeep asked.
"Hyrule." Link said with a heavy heart. He remebered all of his friends back in Hyrule. Especially Zelda, the one who believed in him enough to push him to his destiny.
"Hyrule, huh? Lots of stuff been going on there." the barkeep said casually as he reached for another glass to polish. Link's ears perked up at the sound of news from his home country. "Can't believe you haven't heard anything. Lots of stuff been happening there with the princess and all..." the barkeep continued.
"What about the Princess!?" Link asked, suddenly forgetting about his day's hardships.
"Rumor has it she's been sending letters all over the world searching for this one guy. Must be pretty important, for a princess to look for one guy on the face of the earth. He must be pretty lucky." the barkeep gossiped.
"Wow. Must be pretty important." Link agreed, dumbstruck. Wonder if she's looking for me. Wonder if she even remembers me. It has been seven yea...
"Letter for green-clad Hylian! Letter! Green! Hylian! Are you, sir, him bychance?!" the mailman asked in a ridiculously loud manner. "It's addressed to a Mr. Link?!" the mailman stated.
"That's me." Link said. "Well, then... here you are Mr. Link! Another letter duly delivered!" the mailman yelled as he power-walked out of the bar.
Link inspected the letter, it had the Royal Seal upon it and the address was written in writing so beautiful, it looked like calligraphy. Link opened it with great care.
"Looks important. Who's it from?" the barkeep asked. "You don't think it's from..." the barkeep continued. Link continued to open the letter. The excitement within him was overwhelming. He finally had the letter open and read it to himself:
"Link,
There has been much going on in these last seven years. There is much I wish to tell you. Please return to the land you saved as soon as you can. I will explain our plans further once you reach the castle. Please know that I have missed you dearly for these past seven years. I look forward to your arrival. The guards will know to let you in.
Yours Truly,
Princess Zelda of the Hyrulean Royal Family"
Link quickly folded the letter back into its envelope and pocketed it with the utmost care. "Sorry, but I have to go." Link said in a hurried voice.
"I understand, young man. Go, go home.... Whatcha waitin' for? An invite? Well you got it right there, so get goin!" the barkeep encouraged. Link thanked him and rushed out of the bar and hopped onto Epona. The barkeep watched the green-clad man ride out into the sunset. "Get going..."
It took Link three days to reach Hyrule, and he rode straight through the days and nights. He finally reached Hyrule Field at sunset. He reached the Castle Town Gates just before the soldiers started to raise the gates. He latched Epona to the guard post just past the gates. It was night as he reached the inner part of town.
"Wow, it really has changed." Link said as he observed the buildings of Castle Town. They had established many new buildings, such as stores and apartments, those of which had blocked off the normal route to the Castle. Now Link knew why the soldiers told him to stay inside. He didn't feel safe walking through the backstreets of Castle Town. Too many robed figures, and he was pretty sure that last guy just took 10 rupees.
But Link didn't care, he had to get to the Princess. She was all that mattered. She sent a letter to him from across over hundreds of miles. Just for him. Nothing was going to stop him.
He reached the Castle Gates at 10 P.M. The moon was steadily rising overhead. He wasn't going to get into the Castle even with the Princess' letter at this hour. Link was planning on bribing his way past the guards, but that man did steal his 10 rupees, his last 10 rupees. "Great, just what I need." thought Link. Luckily, he remembered the vines growing on the cliff-face he climbed as a child to meet Zelda. "Just like old times." Link thought as he climbed the vines. They had become overgrown over the past seven years, still strong enough to support his weight. He reached the top of the cliff and jumped off past the gate.
"Smooth sailing so far." Link whispered to himself. "Halt! Identify yourself!" a soldier yelled at the shadow going past the gate. "I'm too tall for this!" Link whispered in an angry tone. "I'm just going to have to run it!" Link thought to himself as he ran towards the castle. He didn't have time to scale any other walls or he would be caught, so he ran past the soldiers guarding the Castle. After 5 minutes, he had a trail of soldiers chasing him. "Halt!" several of them yelled. Link just ran towards the route he usually entered the Castle. "Looks like they finally noticed that milk..." Link said as he noticed the crates were gone. "She said they would let me in! She may be holder of the Triforce of Wisdom, but she wasn't right about this!" Link complained as he looked for a way inside the Castle. "You two search that way, you, come with me!" soldiers yelled in the distance. "Ahhhh, hope I fit!" Link yelled as he jumped at the hole that led to the Castle's Inner Gardens.
He nearly squeezed through as the soldiers came to the opening. "He's gotten inside! Tell the others!" the soldiers plotted. "Just give up for once!" Link begged as he rushed past more soldiers patrolling the gardens. "That's him! Seize him!" the soldiers ordered. Link reached Zelda's Garden where he first met her.
"Not here." Link concluded. "There he is!" Link wasn't going to stop here. He jumped through a nearby window into the Castle. He passed a portrait of some creatures, a princess he didn't recognize, and two moustached men, and continued on to the next room. "I'm in the Castle now. No going back now. Unless I find her, I'm bound to end up hanging in the dungeons." Link said as he ran through the Castle. He passed suits of armor and portraits of past kings. David, Solomon, James, Norbert. A history of Hyrule's past summed up in a row of framed pictures. "All of this Royalty, but not the one I'm looking for." Link said to himself. "There he is!" More soldiers said as they ran down a corridor. Link saw them and ran in the opposite direction. He climbed a staircase to the second floor. He ran past several doors and entered one to hide in. He closed the door behind him quietly and heard several footsteps stamping past the door. He waited until there was no more sounds left that he finally let out a sigh of relief.
"Link? Is that you?" a voice called out to him. It was soft, and lovely. It rang like a bell chiming ever so beautifully, and Link's ears instantly perked up. He was in Zelda's room or study. He couldn't tell. His eyes were focused on the source of the voice. There she was. Zelda. She was sitting at a desk lit by candlelight. Her caring face resonated with the luminescent glow of the candle. She had a quill in her left hand, and had a piece of parchment in front of her. Underneath the parchment was an envelope similar to the one in Link's pockets. "It IS you!" Zelda exclaimed.
"I got your letter." Link said in a sigh. "You have too many guards." Zelda got up and helped Link to his feet and hugged him.
