The doorway closed shut, and Latio skidded to a halt as the echoing crack jumped from wall to wall. These echoes told something about the room to the fox: it was nearly completely cubical, being slightly shorter in height than width or length. The room was neutral in every sense of the word; the ground was flat and the walls had nearly no rough patches. The overall size gave no specific advantage to either ranged or close-quarters combat. No elements were sufficiently present for any of Latio's magical prowess. This was a great disadvantage.

The man who had disturbed the foxfolk's meditative mapping was standing across the room, facing toward him. Pretending to not notice the astonishingly quiet man, the gray fox listened intently. A nearly undetectable mechanical movement chinked away from the man; Latio could hear the mechanizations of an advanced gun of some sort, and several, smaller buzzing sounds sound that Latio could not recognize. He could, however, Identify them as electronics. Perhaps, then, there is something I could warp. Guess I'll have to wait and see.

A fake expression of realization struck Latio's face, and he turned to face his apparent foe. "Hey! Do you know what this place is? I kind of just wandered in and now I'm lost. The doors are shut now too. Think you could help me out?" He started to walk toward the man, concealing a foot-long biometallic spike in the sleeve of his robe. Better make this quick; I need to conserve my energy for Zorlo.
