Re: The Scarlet Mist
Chapter 2: Shadows are people, too!
A slight wind blew in the port town of Myza. A twenty-seven year old pirate, walked about the docks. He heard a whistle. Followed by a hum. He quickly hid in the merchant's stall by the wharfs.
"I wonder where he went..." wondered the pirate, Kira Tasa as she hummed quietly at the docks.
"Hey, Sam, mate, after this is over, can we go to the tavern... I saw some... 'interesting' women..."
"What are you sayin'? We're trying to make it to the inn alive at curfew, and your worried about women!?"
"Who wouldn't?"
"Idiot, we could die!" Sam said to himself a bit loudly. Kira turned in his direction. Suddenly, Sam heard the moan, so he knew it was his queue. A... part of his body came off. You couldn't tell what, but in an instant, Sam was an invisible ghost, as a shodow floated off his body.
The shadow floated away, and Sam ran away to the Myzan town square, meeting up with the Shadow." Alright, Shadow, we can unite, again."
The shadow fell into his body, as he became the pirate, Sam Garrison once again.
"Close one, eh?" Sam offered as they walked towards the tavern," Now, if you try it with my body, I think I'll remain a ghost." Sam snapped.
"Oh c'mon, women don't like pitch-black shadows!"
"I don't like them."
"You are single! Why do you care?!" He boomed.
"Single, what the-"
"Sam! What are you doing?!"
Sam turned to see Kira catching up.
"Um, going to the... tavern...?"
"Why would you do that, Sam, I swear-"
"You there, freeze!"
All turned to see the militia pointing their muskets at them. Sam quickly faded while Shadow hid as the cobblestone's shading.
"Ah, a woman." One man said, knocking her over. Kira screamed as they grabbed her," These creature are the be-"
He yelled, letting go of Kira as he fell hopelessly to the ground, a shadow tearing up his face. Another man screamed, Sam toying with his mind as he entered his body.
The shadow leapt up again, cracking another's neck as he stood on his shoulder. Two miss shots were fired as the other four militia ran.
"Hurry, miss, run, that would have been heard, just get out of here, me and Sam here, will be fine!" Sam ran through a dark ally, hiding behind a crate, he caught his breath.
"So, Sam, what do you think?"
"I say we wait for Kira."
"Why he- Oh, she's good."
"Not for that you bloody idiot! She's my fiance!"
"Are you kidding me, thats even better!"
"Ugh, why do I lug you around?" Sam questioned, still whispering.
"Because you'd be a ghost..." the voice in his head returned more quietly.
Sam sighed," This is foolish, Legix is gun-"
"Grandpa, what happened to Will?" the young boy asked.
"Now just hold on, we'll get to that." the old man replied.
"Hey, I like how he gets my name. I'm the pirate!"
The old man chuckled silently before continuing.
"-na kill me!" Sam hissed. He sat up more, now that he had caught his breath. If Legix ever figured out-
"Sam!" a male's voice boomed.
"Oh lord, yeah, Legix?"
"We had a break through, a few militia are dead!" he howled.
"Ooh... uh, thats pretty bad."
"Hey, what are you doing over there?"
"I'm, I'm just-"
"Does Sam die?"
"Now if ya' don't quit askin' me' that, we may never know!"
Sam didn't reply to this as the old man continued.
"-sitting here... bored."
"You're supposed to be indoors at curfew!"
"What if I was going ot the tavern?"
"Fine, go, but you better not do anything." Legix warned as Sam got up, walknig slowly to the tavern in the Town-square.
"So, Sam, wanna like-"
"NO!" Sam shouted. He heard Legix running in his direction, so he began to run, when he got the tavern, he jumped in, slamming the door behind him.
"Close one..." he said, half-breath.
"Oh yeah, that was close..." replied the voice.
"Okay, tomorrow, we leave for Sailwind, got it? That boat was supplied enough to make the trip to Helldeep." Sam whsipered as he approached the main bar.
A few pardons were about, and some were about in the inn rooms.
"Yessir, are you using a room or just here for tonight?" a bartender asked.
"I'm using room four." Sam replied, thinking of the ten inn rooms there were.
"Ah yes, then all beverages are lowered by thirty-percent."
Sam ordered rum, putting down teh usual price of money anyways. The man went to a barrel, taking out an old musty looking mug, he opened the tap, letting the thick red liquid pour in. He lcosed it, setting the drink down to Sam.
Sam took it, taking a sip, he went quietly up to his room, knowing tomorrow, he'd be at sea again.
"Grandpa, is he really leaving his girlfriend?" Sam questioned.
"Has to, son, things goin' on in Sailwind. Now go to bed, I'll tell more tomorrow night.
