About Michael, I kinda think that he was "Rescued" by the freighter. Not rescued in the way he was expecting though. It is possible that the Walt that John saw was the Real Walt, that he and Michael wre already on the Island.

Also, If Michael had never done what he did, Jack wouldn't have saved Ben's Life and Met Juliet, If that hadn't have happened they could never have "Gotten Rid of" the Others.

Michael set in motion all of Season 3.

In one of the Missing pieces we find out that room 23 (the brain washing station) is "The Room" that Watl was kept in.... just saying....
