Thanks. The chapter was kinda short, but it's good to hear that every now and then.

I guess I'll write another one for tonight.

A Cheesy Disguise, Kid

Link went out the next day. He went with the other knights.

"Alright you pathetic, lot,” began the commander on his horse,” You’re racing each other around the track, we set fences up to give you more of a challenge, do not injure another soldier to win!"

Link made his horse trot up to the starting line,” GO!" the general exclaimed.

Link snapped the reins; his horse reared back, the shot forward. He passed a few of the knights with ease. Leaping of a fence, he passed another. He snapped the reins as he leapt another one. He was in second. He came neck to neck with another knight, who looked like a sergeant.

Link snapped at the reins, his horse leapt over yet another fence.” Give it up, private..." The sergeant said.

Link put on a frown behind his helmet. He leapt another fence, he was coming on to the end. He snapped his reins again, going a tad faster. He was tied. He went faster, the other knight right by him. They passed in a tie.

"Dangit, yer pretty good..." The knight gave him a nod before riding over to the stables to feed his horse for that morning. Link rode his to the same stable. He leapt off his horse. Pouring food in his trough, he filled a bucket with water, and left the horse secure in it's stall.

He stepped out into the sun, while other knights took a lot of armor off to cool of, he kept his on, so no one would see. He didn't want to be kicked out to soon. He went and sat under a shady tree, when he heard a voice,” Wow, low..." Link stood up, looking around. No one.

"That's one cheesy disguise, kid..." Said the familiar voice again. Suddenly, his shadow crawled from the ground a bit. The shade hid him from view,” I thought you'd know better, than to sneak in on these guys, I see why no one likes you..."

"Oh quiet, no one here likes you either..."

"I'm worshiped in the Dark Land."

"You're worshiped by nasty crap eating scums! Just like you!" Link retorted.

He felt pressure on his chest, like two hands pushing him, and he fell down. He heard a faint laugh as his shadow faded away. He glowered under his helmet.

Link found military life hard, he trained and worked hard all day, even Epona, his mighty horse was tired. Late that evening after running another race, he brought Epona back in the stable. He walked out into the dusk. Hardly any light remained in the west. The chill night wind began blowing softly.

Soldiers and farmers were walking into their tents and small cabins. Link headed across the field, into the milk storage. The mask man was gone. He plopped himself on a milk box. He sighed deeply, it was a hard day.

He began to close his eyes, drifting off. His mu-

"Well, you're a pretty good knight for a runaway."

"Huh? Crap, I should have figured you'd know, Zelda." Link replied.

"It was easy to spot your horse out there. And your uniform was just... cheap, a little out dated."

"I got it off the wall." Link said, holding back laughing from here comments.

"You should really be careful, easy to get killed for doing that."

"I want to fight my shadow's army legally." Link said honestly.

"Just leave it to the military, they're good." Zelda had now shut the door,” Honestly you're being a fool!"

"I know the military's good, but it's my shadow!"

"Whatever, but you should be careful, but Link, just take this. Ask... what do you want most?"

****
Zelda smiled, tossing the compass to Jack.
****
She smiled weakly, tossing a glowing orb to Link.” The Globe of truth."

"It's not really a globe." Link said. He looked up, Zelda didn't hear him, she had already left. Link sighed, going back to sleep.

Link awoke the next morning, going back to the usual routine, and throughout the week continued to train. Eventually, the general rode up as Link was talking to the same sergeant.

"Greetings, 100 men from the enemy are marching here, you must stop them..."

He continued on with his orders,” Who’s he?" Link questioned.

"You really a dumb soldier kid, he's leader of the whole army!"

"What's his na-?"

"Kid, stop talking!" another higher rank ordered. A few men laughed. So after the orders, Link rode out with the other knights, followed by infantry. It felt amazing, the 'knight in shining armor', riding out to battle fearlessly, surrounded by other powerful, well trained knights.

As Link spotted the soldiers on the horizon, he was ordered to draw his weapon and speed up. He did as he was told. He whisper quickly to the sergeant,” What’s his name?"

"Well, it's- LOOK OUT, KID!" he exclaimed.

Link ducked just in time as a sword went over his head, hitting another knight's head.

Link now had met the enemy. He stabbed one of the knights as he passed him. He drew his bow and arrow, firing at a random infantry unit. He turned his horse around, running past a knight, slicing the man off his horse. He screamed in agony as he was trampled by hooves.

Link shot another arrow at an enemy knight, which had just missed his head. His sword made contact with another sword. An arrow went over his head; he rode away in time as an axe missed his back. He was in bad danger.

He hit another enemy knight in the back. The man yelled, staying on. Link chased him, finally hitting him again. The man fell off his horse. Twitching. Link rode to the battle. The trampled some infantry, slicing another. An arrow went by him. He was unlucky the next time.

An arm flew into his shoulder. He gasped fore air a second, and resumed fighting. It hurt, but he would think about it later.

Eventually, after the battle, he rode in the field, slowly taking the arrow out. He filched, wrapping the wound up with an old bandage. He rode back to his lines. He had lost several men. Darkness had lost more.

That night they rode into the ranch. Right as Link finished with Epona, he went back to the milk storage. He rested a bit, before he eventually went back out into the night. He walked over to the sergeant,” Sir, what was that man's name?"

"Ganondorf. Go away, I'm busy." he replied.

Link nodded, walking off. He passed a farmer at work feeding a few cows. He noticed Malon walk out of the house, back to one of the horses. She was crazy over those animals!

He approached her," Malon,"

She looked up," What'd I do, I was just feeding the ho-"

"Din, it's just me. Link." He told her, taking off his helmet, to reveal his head, smaller than it should be in the armor.

"Heh, you look silly in there, what are you doing? My father told you to leave."

"I didn't wanna miss out on any of the fighting; after all, this war partly is my fault."

"How?” she questioned.

"Hard to explain." he replied.

Malon nodded,” Well what abou-"

"Soldiers! Get your weapons! We're under attack!"

Link looked at her,” Sorry, gotta go." he said, putting his helmet back on, running off. Some of the knights went to the stable, he joined the infantry. He went on the fence he had jumped, and found a few troops firing arrows at them.

Link loaded his bow, taking careful aim, he let the string go. The arrow flew, hitting on in the head. Link chuckled.

A few infantry units fired arrows at the darkness soldiers, and in response, the obviously fired back.

Link loaded his bow again, taking out another soldier. The men scattered as infantry fired back again. A few bodies were strewn on the field. A small skirmish to be sure.

Link knew Malon went back inside, so he went back into the storage. He fell onto the ground, falling asleep.

He would awake, to find just more training. Nothing special.
