Yeah, but that was Nintendo simply trying to milk the Gameboy Advance cow dry. Who knows, they just may do the same with the DS (make one where there isn't a GBA slot to make it smaller and the screens bigger).
Gameboy was popular because it was a portable system
NES was popular because it was a home system
Now that a new portable system has been around for quite some time, there really hasn't been any word on a new evolution to the Gameboy. Nintendo stuck around with the Gameboy Advance
just in case the DS became a total failure (so they could simply fall back on the GBA...you know, sorta like the Virtual Boy).
The DS has a touch pad, microphone, wifi compatable, and 3D graphic.
The Wii has motion control, a (small) speaker, wifi compatable, and 3D graphics.
What could you possibly expect a Gameboy to do, that a DS can't do already? The only thing I can think of is for it to have even better graphics than the DS (one that could be equivallent to the Gamecube). Face it, the DS is this generation's Gameboy...it just has a new name.
