Strange indeed. I saw a pic with the full quote: "Can this masks dark powers be as bad as Majora's?"

Ewww. For closure on the theory, one must assume that the quote is nothing more than a red herring designed to keep the player guessing.

Or you can look at FD the Guardian at another angle: How far did he go to obtain power to protect the land? Did he sell his soul?

In Japan, FD was called Oni Link. And as you all know, 'Oni' - means demon. So maybe he sold his soul to a demon, gained its powers, saved the world, and when he died, his essence, the good and the bad transferred into the mask/tree.

Or it could be pure evil.
I'll never admit that though, I still love that Guardian Hero theory.
