Re: A Trial of Angels(Sakume)
His smile, previously coy and proud faded at the sight of her tears. She tried her best to hide them from him, but the captain's eyes missed very little. It turned to a half-grimace. "Stop crying, Miss Kunata. You're one to give up so easily?"
It seemed by his expression of frustration she had hit some heartstring though it was not apparent how. She didn't realize how much her last sentence summed up much of Will's grief. Indeed they had thrown her out of heaven, just as they did Selene. More matched, but Will had no need to dwell upon such depressing thoughts.
"I won't harm such a beautiful animal, don't worry, Miss Kunata. I would never intend to do such a thing unless I were given reason to. As for your record..." He swirled the wine inside his crystal glass, staring at it. "I don't believe you're guilty. However; the courts believe otherwise. They have an eyewitness who states she saw you. Because of this fact, and because they will be bringing her into your hearing tomorrow, you will be guilty. There's no doubt of this. You will die, one way or another, Miss Kunata."
She either wouldn't or couldn't speak, probably due to her crying. She most likely didn't want him to have any satisfaction in her cracked voice, so only Lutai's whining came through as a reply.
"Let me be frank, Miss Kunata..." Will now pushed his chair back and took his glass of wine, pacing back and forth for a moment, one hand held behind his back, palm outward with fingers slightly curled inside it. "There is one way you can live tomorrow. Get off scott free, even. You'll never be blamed for anything again."
"H-how?" she asked, lifting her head slightly.
"Miss Kunata... I'm not a greedy man... and the king has appointed me as head of the heavenly army, as I'm sure you know. He intends to make me his next heir. To take that position, however, I will need a queen by my side. I don't pretend to know you, and I know you're not that favorable of me, but if you were to accept this proposal, it would ensure your survival as well as your future. Think about it during dinner, won't you? On to the main course..." He sat down once more, clapping as several angels filed in to remove her untouched plate and give her something new, several choices of food, in fact, as well as some water.
