Re: Neck Deep in Death (HitokiriChibi, I)ragon)
The black and gray cat looked at Joker strangely, taken aback from his questions. She looked down at the ground, dejectedly. She jumped down off of J's cot and sighed, looking at the ground. Suddenly, she morphed back into her original form, a black hooded cloak covering all of her and a red scarf dangling out of her hood, shimmering brown hair in her face. She had a lot of explaining to do so she sat down on an empty cot.
"It all started when this city used to run by another crime organization, muggings and gang-fights happened on a daily basis," she started.
"Corshire is a province of our kingdom and finally our king decided to establish a firm military program here. The gangs were rooted out and the Captain of the Guard, Joshua Rolfe, was rewarded. Every time he rounds up ten criminals within a month, he is handsomely rewarded with gold, fancy linens, polished weapons, more reputation..."
Salis paused, stretching out on the bed. "Buuuut... Mr. Rolfie scared all the baddies away and when there is no bad guys to catch in Corshire, the Captain of the Guard loses his bonus and then the King is displeased..."
Her expression started to sour. "So the 'clever' man made criminals of his own men, finding whatever reason he could get to imprison then. But then he thought that he might get snitched on... so he started to go for the newcomers... now he has a steady flow of incoming cash because a lot of people visit now that we have become a popular 'crime-free' town."
Salis glared at the ground under the cot she was sitting on. "That's where my Master comes in... he doesn't like Joshua Rolfe -at all- and he wants him dead. Unfortunately, Mr. Rolfe's estate is almost a fortress, heavily guarded and whatnot. So he bailed out some of Rolfe's victims and they swore to follow and serve Master for saving them, thus forming the Syndicate. Master has collected a lot more members now and we're in the hideout right now."
"That's why I had to knock you all out... our hideout is secret and he doesn't want to risk its location, he was going to let you die but I decided quickly and knocked you out..." she trailed off, looking down at the ground sadly.
Salis looked over at Roery and then her head. "We're doing our best to see that Roery is cared for but we're not much in the way of doctors... still, we're trying... and we don't want anything from you, Joker, or your friends. They're my friends too, you know...." she said, sulking slightly. With that, she stood up off of the cot and walked out of the basement. "Wait here, I'll bring you some food..."
The door closed and Drake heard her footsteps get down a hallway. He walked up to the door and tried to open it, finding that it was locked. He heard Salis's voice and someone else's. It was muffled through the door and he couldn't exactly make out any words but the other voice, a man's, was loud and aggravated. Both the voices stopped and the footsteps parted, one coming back. Drake quickly headed to his cot.
Salis opened the door and staggered down the stairs with a rather large platter. "All we have right now is stuff for sandwiches..." she muttered, setting the platter down and lying on her cot to rest, rubbing her shoulder. Drake took two slices of bread and felt them, still soft. At least the food was decent, he shrugged and put some of the meat, chicken, roast beef and ham in between the bread, quickly eating.
