Episode 5IVE: Candy Perfume Piano Girl
"The little wretch was waiting right there for me! I really wanted to rip her apart right there, but she was just a kid.
I don’t get off on killing little kids. Their heartbeats aren’t as…full.
Anyway, I kept myself hidden from her, I heard that silly little piano tune playing over and over and over. That really made me want to stab a few through her ears or her head or somethin’.
Right after that, I saw her enter the frickin house.
What in the…flying…I followed after a little while. It was late now, so the person was supposedly sleeping upstairs or something. The house was so black and quiet…man, all I could hear were three heartbeats; mine, the girl’s and the woman upstairs, and that goddamn piano music. I couldn’t hear no footsteps or nothin’. Don’t know where in the hell that little girl went.
Then all of a sudden, I hear this…exhale…then an inhale. She was holding her breath…it was like the little ***** knew I could hear her! But it looked like she was hiding or something. Heh, like she was scared.
What the hell did she come here for if she was just going to run and hide?
Meh, anyway, I looked around for her, but I didn’t find her. I didn’t hear her breathe or anything…just her heart and that piano music.
So she was hiding...leave her there.
I went to the kitchen and found myself a nice…shiny looking knife. Sharp and big. Just the shine made me want to see how well it cut sooo badly…
Stairs now…I was heading up the stairs…then I feel like something against my neck, and all of a sudden, I’m in this strangle hold with a wire around my neck and the kid pulling away at the back of me. I have no fricking idea of how she snuck up on me and managed to get that wire around my neck.
I dropped the knife, but I managed to knock her away and send her down the stairs. But before I knocked down…I swear…her eyes were glowing and they were like…slits. Fricking freaky kid. She laid there for a while; at the bottom of the stairs. Like she was out cold.
I decided to leave her there while I go make the quick kill.
That kill was sweet…I didn’t let the lady scream because of the kid downstairs…but still…uugghh…her heart was amazing…
When I went back to check on the girl, she was gone. I looked around for her and stuff, but yeah, she was pretty much gone.
I set up the body like I usually did, then I got out of there with my tail between my legs.
When I came back the next morning to see the police do their work, the little brat…the little demon brat…she was right there, staring at me. Good God, she knew it was me, she knew it. But no cop ever came up to me. I turned around and headed out early.
When I picked my next victim, she was there, at the house.
I decided that I wouldn’t go through with this one, I decided to pick another house to scope out.
She was at the other house too.
And she was at the other one. And the one after that and the one after that and the one after - AAHH!! I CAN’T TAKE IT! STOP IT! STOP LOOKING AT ME!
THE DEMON KEPT COMING FOR ME! SHE WAS THERE! SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE! SHE WAS ALWAYS LOOKING AT ME! AND THAT DEVIL PIANO MUSIC, STOP IT FROM PLAYING! STOP IT! IT SCARES ME!
Pleeaasee…Stop it…
Mommy, mommy? Where are you, mommy? Why can’t you keep me safe, mommy? She’s there, mommy, she’s right by the door. Help me mommy! The devil girl knows my favourite colour…does mommy know my favourite colour? Red? No, no, no. Mommy doesn’t know? Mommy doesn’t know? It’s black, mommy, black. Black Black BLACK BLACK BLACK BLACK!! Stop playing that song, mommy! I don’t like that song!
The mattress! She hid it under the mattress! GET IT GET IT GET IT! TAKE IT! DESTROY IT! Just get it away!"
Set pointed to the bed that Rain was sitting on all this time.
"It’s there! The devil girl left it for me! Just take it and go! Take it take it before she comes back for it!"
Rain lifted the mattress and pulled out a dusty, black plastic bag. There was something hard inside, but it wasn’t heavy.
"No no no no no! She’s here! I can smell her perfume and I can hear the music and her breathing and I can hear her heart! She’s here!"
The insane man flew up, the dirty bedsheet still covering his whole upper body. I didn’t look like he was wearing any pants…or any clothes for that matter; just that bedsheet.
He lunged at Rain.
"You brought her here! You killed me!"
The Grim Angel sidestepped, tripping the man in the process. Set fell onto the bed and thrashed about, wrestling with the mattress.
"This is all your fault!"
Rain turned around, opening the door and quietly backing outside. A familiar face greeted him outside. It was Chanson, she was her usual self, running around and giggling before finally running the flight of stairs.
She hadn’t set foot in Set’s room during all that time that Rain was in there. Chanson had remained just outside the door.
Rain pulled whatever it was out of the bag and dropped the plastic on the floor; it was already dirty down here, anyway.
What he pulled out was a dull silver, circular object with a cord attached to it.
"A…CD player?"
He popped the lid open. Inside seemed to be newer than the outside, as if it hadn’t been opened in a long, long while. There was a single CD inside, it looked slightly scratched, but it also looked like it would still be able to play. Rain closed the lid and flipped the thing over, opening that little compartment that houses the batteries.
"Empty. I figured." Of course, there was no way that Set would have a fresh pair of batteries.
He wrapped the long cord -- the earphones -- around his right hand and held the player in that same hand as he walked up the stairs. Chanson was already at the door to the first floor as Rain started to climb around the gate with the large ‘ENTRANCE PROHIBITED’ sign.
The door swung open.
Rain was grabbed by a hand and pulled him through.
A woman, about eight or so inches shorter than him, started flashing a police badge right in front of his face.
"Thank you for giving me more work to do." She had a very strong, confident voice, "It’s just what I needed."
When she finally moved the badge away, Rain got a good look at her.
She was pretty enough, having long, straight, dark orange hair and dark brown eyes. She wore a long, dark brown jacket with a hood and-
"Stop staring at me like that. It’s impolite, Mr. Seraph."
Rain smiled nervously, Oh-kay, then. What does this lady want?
"I see you already know my name," Rain extended his hand, "And you are?"
"Detective Tanya Dayna Thracia." She folded her arms, looking up at Rain’s face.
Rain retracted his hand. What is with people and handshakes these days? Is it an old fad or something? He chuckled to himself.
"Anyway," Tanya continued, "You’re coming with me, because an old friend of the police department called and said you were digging up two personal cold cases." She grabbed Rain’s hand and began to drag him towards the entrance.
Two cold cases, huh?
"I don’t have the time to hang around talking. I don’t need to put handcuffs on you because if you run, I will shoot you." She glared at him with piercing eyes.
Rain went along peacefully. Of course, he could just escape, she’d never have a chance to aim; he’d be long gone by then. She was dragging him down to the police department, which would be a good source of information about Chanson’s murder.
Set didn’t kill her. Hell, he was too scared to even approach her. So who did stick that knife in her?
"I don’t think I can just take you in for digging up in stuff," the detective continued, "but I can book you for trespassing, which I just saw you do."
