Yes the game was weird, but come on people, this was 1988! I think we can excuse the lack of the technology we see in games like OoT, MM, TP or even TWW! Try to look past that - we have a reasonably strong storyline, apparently good music, fantastic temples, a much bigger challenge than any other Zelda game to date, and the first appearance of many Zelda components we take for granted today, such as magic, the hammer, towns and Dark Link.
Given all that, how can anyone maintain that the game was bad?
