One doesn't have to know that God is who He is to receive grace from him. If one sincerely tries to know the truth and act according to it, leading a good life, even if he doesn't actually find the truth, he can make it to Heaven. Whether or not they ask for grace, God sends it and they can make use of it, even if they don't know they're receiving it. It's when they don't make good use of it and die in mortal sin that they get punished in Hell.
